How do you learn and what are your goals in learning music? I aim to make learning music as interesting and accessible as possible. I use a scaffolded approach to teaching that pairs physically sustainable playing techniques (Alexander Technique) with built-upon previous knowledge and interests. I hold MM and BM degrees from New York University and The University of Iowa and studied with Melissa White and Gregory Fulkerson for the entirety of my Masters of Music at New York University. I am a violinist and violist currently living and working in New York City. I have played in such venues as Lincoln Center Summer Stages, Carnegie Hall, Duomo di Orvieto, among others. I grew up playing bluegrass with my parents and now genre-hop among traditional classical music, contemporary classical, pop, singer-songwriter, musical theater, jazz, avant-garde, and folk. For these reasons and more, I enjoy tailoring the repertoire and technique education to the student's goals and interests. I have taught 3 year olds, elementary kids, high schoolers, college students, and adult learners, and enjoyed all within the age range for various reasons.

Currently, I am concertmaster in the Málaga Camerata Orchestra, and I actively participate in the OFMAN. I have actively participated in the JOBA, Orbis Symphony Orchestra Sinfosol, JOPMA, Jonomur orchestras. Also a member of the ORBIS quartet. As for my experience: I am a violin teacher at ElCamm, and I have been giving private lessons for more than 5 years. I finished my studies at the Superior Conservatory of Music of Malaga, with Lorenzo Triviño. The classes are carried out with my own method based on the technique of Galamian and Simon Fischer, as well as the teachings of the great teachers with whom I have worked and my learning experience teaching a great diversity of students, with which I seek the flexibility to adapt to the student.

Cathy started her music teaching career in 2015, and has been teaching students from beginner to grade 8, aged from 6 to 35 years old. She always welcomes students who wish to explore more about music, building up playing the flute as their hobby, as well as growing together with them as their role models. She feels very glad and blessed to be the teacher of her students, as well as being their sister, witnessing their growth and becoming a good friend to them. In the lesson, she would always love to play studies, and exercise, as well as play flute pieces and duets together with the students. To broaden their horizons, she would love to share different music recordings, as well as discuss the music together during the lesson. Cathy believes that it is essential for students to step out of the classroom to learn music, rather than just playing the flute. During years of teaching, she has encountered students taking different examination grades. Cathy understands the importance of choosing the pieces for students, she would love to demonstrate pieces and discuss the preferences with the students together. As the mode of having examinations has varied these years, she has already adapted to preparing students for the exams under different situations.
