I have a degree in English Literature from Cambridge university and I offer English Literature classes for students of all levels. My teaching focuses especially on close reading and essay writing skills, from primary school classes through to proofreading and reading exercises for university students. My own particular areas of interest are Shakespeare and eco-critical approaches to reading, but my interest in literature is wide ranging and I can adapt the content of my classes to suit students' own tastes. A typical class would involve taking an unseen text or looking at a particular section of a text we were working on longer term and doing discussion based and collaborative close reading of the text, then building out into more context, critical and historical, then using this discussion as a starting point for planning an argument for an essay. Classes can also be more instructive and content driven, beginning with a particular literary term or technique or a literary movement or moment. My classes are intended to support students' curriculum learning around literature or further people's personal interest in literature by focusing deeply on a particular text or aspect.

When we learn about poetry at school, the type of work we're encouraged to read is extremely limited, with the focus falling mainly on long dead authors and outdated forms. In this masterclass we'll look at a range of contemporary poetic practices, with a particular focus on erasure poetry, and begin to move away from what we've been taught and what we think we know. Sharing a range of example pieces by established poets, I'll show you how the language and materials that we find all around us can be used to create poems that exist at the intersection of literature and visual art. After exploring some of the creative techniques and processes involved in the making of erasure poems, you'll have an opportunity to create one of your own using a piece of text of your choice. We'll finish the class with a discussion about the process and anything else that feels useful to you. While I welcome participants with all levels of experience, those joining should have a strong interest in poetry and be looking to develop their practice, whether that means making their first ever poem or exploring an unfamiliar form. I am currently a student in Master MEEF 1st degree, with the aim of becoming a school teacher, so I am passionate about teaching. Level 1 is for Beginner English Course Level students who want to communicate in English, and develop basic speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills. Beginner English Course Objectives: Ask and respond to simple, routine and predictable questions about personal information. Communicate some basic needs in informal conversations. Understand key words, some phrases, simple commands, and short sentences in simple conversations. Read a simple text that is related to daily life and experience. Topics include routine events, descriptions of people, places and things and simple instructions, etc. Write a few sentences and phrases about topics that are familiar to the student: family, travel, food, health, etc. Show some control over basic grammatical structures to communicate basic needs.
