English literature tutoring and interview preparation

I have a degree in English Literature from Cambridge university and I offer English Literature classes for students of all levels. My teaching focuses especially on close reading and essay writing skills, from primary school classes through to proofreading and reading exercises for university students. My own particular areas of interest are Shakespeare and eco-critical approaches to reading, but my interest in literature is wide ranging and I can adapt the content of my classes to suit students' own tastes.

A typical class would involve taking an unseen text or looking at a particular section of a text we were working on longer term and doing discussion based and collaborative close reading of the text, then building out into more context, critical and historical, then using this discussion as a starting point for planning an argument for an essay.

Classes can also be more instructive and content driven, beginning with a particular literary term or technique or a literary movement or moment. My classes are intended to support students' curriculum learning around literature or further people's personal interest in literature by focusing deeply on a particular text or aspect.
