Whether you want to sing for fun, be coached through the ABRSM graded singing exams, or brush up your understanding of music through theory lessons, don't hesitate to get in touch.

Singing Ethos:
My belief is that everyone can learn to sing when taught properly and holistically and can experience the joy of discovering the unique qualities of their individual voice. This is a joy which I share with my students and why I find teaching so rewarding. My experience is predominantly (but not exclusively) with children and I love to watch as their love for their voice grows.

What you can expect:
I believe it is important to teach with an emphasis on technique and vocal health, so from the first few lessons students learn about the body and the way the voice works. I address this through exercises and breathing techniques as well as songs appropriate to age and stage; (usually based around the appropriate ABRSM Grades). I strive to create a fun, nurturing environment where learning and confidence can be optimised.
I currently study with Sophie Grimmer, a highly respected and accomplished vocal teacher based in London who has performed at venues across Europe and London such as ENO. Therefore everything I teach my own students is informed by the world class tuition I am lucky enough to receive, (but of course adjusted so that it is age appropriate). This ensures that the tuition I give is always current and reflects the ever evolving industry standards for vocal tuition.

I look forward to hearing from you!

(Please don't be put off if below availability doesn't work, as this can be negotiated).

Tailor-made sessions providing singers of any level with the tools to keep improving their vocal delivery and performances.

A freelance music and dance artist / performer by trade, I've delivered private lessons from my home in East London for the past 9 years, preparing happy students for auditions and exams amongst others.
In my work, I include :

Sound
Voice placement
Breath control
Vocal techniques (mainly pop & experimental, in accordance with student's voice and style)
Range
Body-mind preparation
Rhythmicality
Delivery
Performance
Songwriting (on request)

On top of my practical experience and personal research, I have trained with renowned teachers and vocal coaches such as Line Hilton (BAST), Mark De Lisser, Laurent Versini, Andrea Ainsworth...
With extensive experience as a busker, singer-songwriter and function singer as well as having sung with choirs such as London Contemporary Voices, ACM Gospel Choir, Some Voices, TGGG, Singology etc, my main singing styles are pop, soul, gospel and reggae.
I also use my background in movement and somatics to help prepare the body for the best singing performances.

Some students feedback :

« Marc is a great singing teacher. His presence is gentle and his instructions and feedback are precise, specific and simple. As a dancer the connection between the body, energy and the voice are from the beginning nourished. The body and voice get warmed up and released, energy gets flowing, connecting the body to the voice, proceeding to vocal exercises and finally the performance of a song, with personal corrections, suggestions and images for pitch, sound, tone and delivery. I highly recommend. » T.S

« Marc is a superb singing teacher. I felt comfortable even though I was a beginner. nice warm up and going through a song. It was fun and taught me how to sing a song that I wanted to learn, with details and suitable for my voice » Y.M

« Marc is very approachable and I felt very relaxed as a nervous singer. I felt at ease and always looked forward to my classes with him. » R.D

« Marc is a very patient and welcoming singing teacher. He developed my singing skills and techniques in ways that I found interesting and valuable, and personalised lesson content and the repertoir to me. Highly recommend Marc if you want a friendly and hard working singing teacher. » N.C

« Marc is an amazing vocal coach. Throughout our lessons I have learnt techniques to improve my voice control and projection. I loved working with him, I liked his professionalism and patience. » S.H

« The singing lessons are great for all levels as Marc has experience as a singer. What really helps is that he has a strong knowledge on how other elements other than the voice can affect one's singing, for example keeping the body relaxed and reducing tension. I've learned some great techniques to help me with relaxing while singing which is great for me personally as I have anxiety and get quite nervous when performing.
Marc creates a safe homely environment and has a great warm personality so it makes it that much more easier and enjoyable when attending the lessons. »
B.S

« Marc has given me some great lessons in which I feel have helped me improve my vocals a lot. He's given me some really useful tips in how to have a good technique, as well as working with me on reaching my unique goals. »

*** Music Theory lessons with Dr Jonathan ***

I am a composer and educator based in South-East London who has recently obtained a PhD in composition from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, having previously studied at Cambridge and the Royal Academy of Music. My passion for music feeds directly into my passion for teaching, and I hope that I can inspire as many people as possible to deepen their love of music by learning to understand it from the inside out.

I have been teaching music for over 10 years both in schools and as a private tutor, ranging from interactive workshops with primary students to university-level one-to-one composition. I have previously been the resident composition teacher at Eton College (2015-17) and City of London School for Girls (2017-20), as well as delivering workshops at schools around the country in a visiting capacity. I am as comfortable working with students taking their very first steps in theory and composition as I am with those who are more advanced, and can teach across a variety of styles and genres including classical, jazz, rock and musical theatre.

As a tutor, I always seek a student-led approach, adapting content and delivery to individual tutees’ needs. Above all, whether in theory or composition, I always try to enthuse students by conveying my own love of music and encouraging theirs. No element of music or musical development can be considered in isolation, and so I seek to link up whatever a student is working on with their wider musicianship and listening – classical or otherwise – to put things into context. Another important part of my teaching practice is preparing tailor-made resources for students which are theirs to keep, ensuring that any material covered can be revised and consolidated.

Time is split between teaching key concepts (including providing tailor-made resources) and looking through student work, always balancing the discussion between aspects of the work which are more or less successful. While most of my theory students take ABRSM theory grades, I also teach theory and musicianship more broadly without focusing on specific exams and boards.

Luke
My name is Luke and I am a 24 year old, multi-award winning guitarist from Greenwich, London.
I am an experienced and enthusiastic teacher and am adept at all varieties of guitar playing, including, classical, acoustic, electric and bass.

Regarding my previous experience in tutoring, I have given 1000's of hours of guitar tuition both privately and in school settings. These experiences have given me a keen sense of how to motivate students and offer them concise and useful advice. I have worked at many excellent institutions in the past, including Streatham and Clapham Girls' School (one of the top private girls schools in the country), Orpington Music Studio, The Royal Arsenal School of Music and Canada Blanch Music Academy.

I have found over my experiences of being taught and then eventually teaching that the best method for getting the most out of a student is to listen. If the tutor is acutely aware of where their student needs help and where they are already confident, they can tailor classes carefully to make the best use of the time allowed and to get the maximum potential out of them. This philosophy leads to classes being student-oriented, in that the student leads the tuition. The tutor acts as a supportive crutch, first working through problems together, then allowing them to explore it themselves with the tutor to lean back on.

In my first years of training, like many others, I completed grades. Because of this I have a very good knowledge of what it takes to move along this system. However, the grade system should not be seen as the only way to learn an instrument. The same achievement can be gained through simple discussion between student and teacher and the correct prescription of pieces and studies to work on. I am more than happy to walk down whatever avenue they wish to explore.

I would love to hear from you in the future. Thank you.

Emilie has been teaching vocals for 6 years specialising is many different genres. Teaching big groups and vocal 1-1s. Emilie loves to focus on feeling confident and comfortable when singing. Looking at performance and vocal control. Always looking at ways to improve and get to the next step as a vocalist. Emilie teaches beginners all the way up to advanced. Emilie also teaches piano and songwriting.

If you are wanting to take exams in singing Emilie also focuses on this. From experience preparing for Trinity, Rock School and ABRSM. Emilie understands that exams aren't for everyone. So if you would rather just develop your vocals in other ways such as through vocals and songs, Emilie can put together working goals for this and a separate syllabus without the taking the exam part.
