Contemporary Commercial Style Vocal Training. Perfect for: beginners wanting to explore the possibilities of their voice; advanced singers stuck in a rut; classical singers wanting to explore contemporary styles; producers wanting to sing on their own tracks; songwriters who want to be singer songwriters; instrumentalists’ wanting to add singing. 01. A Secure Technique. The foundation of your singing. Control your voice enough to be able to sing in the way you choose. √ Get to the root of your singing weak areas - not always what you think they are. √ Sing through your range with fluid ease. Big jumps become an enjoyable challenge rather than an ‘oh no it’s coming’ moment. √ Control the beginning and ends of your phrases for a finer, more professional result. √ Learn how to recognise anxiety in your voice - how it affects your singing, when it gets triggered, and how to turn it to your advantage. 02. Phrasing. Draw out your musicianship, make decisions around how you choose to use your voice. √ Go to the dark side - why ugly can be as meaningful as pretty. √ Learn how to float around the pulse or sit convincingly in the groove. √ How to use dynamics and vocal quality as your toolkit. √ How and when to use brightness and lift, and mellow warmth to bring contrast and shape. 03. Interpretation. Who you are, and what you have to say. This stuff gets more interesting with age. √ Remembering what each particular song is for, and how we can build on that in our delivery. √ How the construction of the word itself can help put over your meaning. √ Shift between your natural energy levels and more unfamiliar aspects √ When to add and, perhaps more interestingly, when to leave out or take away. I’m Elizabeth and I’m a singer-pianist and teacher based in London. I work with dedicated singers from all over the world to help realise their singing desires. “A singing lesson isn’t a conveyor belt. Every singer has different needs and wants - an individual approach is taken each time.” I’ve worked in the industry for over 25 years. My formal background includes a Graduate Diploma in Jazz from Leeds College of Music (1st class); Post-graduate Certificate in Further Education from Huddersfield University; Post-graduate in Jazz from the Guildhall School of Music, former Director of BRIT Kids, the BRIT School; visiting lecturer - BMus degree at Westminster University; Head of vocals at the London College of Creative Media. Whether you want to sing for fun, be coached through the ABRSM graded singing exams, or brush up your understanding of music through theory lessons, don't hesitate to get in touch. Singing Ethos: My belief is that everyone can learn to sing when taught properly and holistically and can experience the joy of discovering the unique qualities of their individual voice. This is a joy which I share with my students and why I find teaching so rewarding. My experience is predominantly (but not exclusively) with children and I love to watch as their love for their voice grows. What you can expect: I believe it is important to teach with an emphasis on technique and vocal health, so from the first few lessons students learn about the body and the way the voice works. I address this through exercises and breathing techniques as well as songs appropriate to age and stage; (usually based around the appropriate ABRSM Grades). I strive to create a fun, nurturing environment where learning and confidence can be optimised. I currently study with Sophie Grimmer, a highly respected and accomplished vocal teacher based in London who has performed at venues across Europe and London such as ENO. Therefore everything I teach my own students is informed by the world class tuition I am lucky enough to receive, (but of course adjusted so that it is age appropriate). This ensures that the tuition I give is always current and reflects the ever evolving industry standards for vocal tuition. I look forward to hearing from you! (Please don't be put off if below availability doesn't work, as this can be negotiated).
