I am a Belgian (Flemish) and French student with a Masters in International Public Law (Amsterdam) and a Masters in Global development (University of Copenhagen). World traveler, I have lived in Thailand, Denmark, Greece, the Netherlands, US, Switzerland and many more countries, where I both dtudies and worked as a legal advisor. I have been tutoring since 2017, both in person, in schools and online, since 2017, I have been working with around 250 students, located everywhere in the world! Here is an overview of my previous tutoring experience: 2022-Now: Online tutoring on Apprentus, (approx 12h/week). 2023: Tutor of Dutch at Varady Language school in Geneva 2021-2022: I worked at "bijlesthuis," a Dutch tutoring institution, where I primarily taught French, Dutch, and English to adult learners seeking to improve their language skills. During the same period, I also provided classes to other students through Apprentus. 2021: Through Apprentus and other websites, I assisted several younger students (ages 5-15) in Bern and Geneva, helping them improve their skills in subjects such as Maths and French. 2017-2020: I worked for three years at a tutoring institution in Geneva called ARA, where I primarily taught French, Mathematics, and English. During this time, I also spent two years working at a private school called Florimont, where I supported students aged 11-16 across various subjects by assisting them with their homework. I can teach French, Dutch, and English, Spanish and in German, and I thoroughly enjoy teaching and assisting students in their progress and acquisition of new skills. Cosy private lessons for everybody I try to make my online lessons as cosy as possible. I use the video-conference system, so I can see my students and they can see me; we can talk, we make the exercises together, I explain all the grammar, and if my students have any doubt or questions, I explain it orally which I think makes it easier to be understood. It is as if we were sitting in an office side by side. The only thing we cannot do is drinking a coffee while we study. Besides the lessons, I always send some homework. I will send a book that we follow, and the rest of the material is sent by me by e-mail as well. As soon as it is possible, I advise my students to start reading books in the language they learn, and from the very beginning to start listening to the TV. It is a way of being surrounded by the language. I always insist a lot on the accent, and this helps. I have students with a perfect accent. Listening to the language also helps to open the hears to the sounds, making easier to understand. From the very beginning I also start with small conversations in each lesson. You may believe that all my students are being very successful with this kind of lessons. I have now students from all over the world. Concerning the level my students attain, ofcourse it depends on them. Together we see what your needs are and how fast you want to learn. As for the number of lessons per week, I advise that you should have at least two. Less than two is very little and you have a long break between lessons. It is bad because you don't have any contact with the language and feel that you are advancing very slowly. We can also have lessons in the weekend if that is easier for you.

My name is Arno and I am currently getting my master's degree at Sciences Po Paris in European Affairs. I have always loved languages. I was raised in a trilingual environment through which I learned Dutch, English, and Armenian. Being raised in this environment has changed the way I look at languages. Besides these three, I also speak Norwegian, Spanish, and French at a B2 level (CEFR) as well as Arabic at B1 level (CEFR). I have more than 5 years of professional experience in language tutoring and know what works and what does not. I have tutored high school and college students and have taught languages to students as young as 7 and as old as 63. My most rewarding language tutoring experience was teaching Dutch to Syrian refugees. Through them, I truly understood the importance of language and how it can connect people from across the world. My personal approach to language learning as a combination of learning how to speak quickly and truly understanding grammar.
