In this masterclass we'll look at a range of contemporary poetic practices, with a particular focus on erasure poetry, and begin to move away from what we've been taught and what we think we know. Sharing a range of example pieces by established poets, I'll show you how the language and materials that we find all around us can be used to create poems that exist at the intersection of literature and visual art. After exploring some of the creative techniques and processes involved in the making of erasure poems, you'll have an opportunity to create one of your own using a piece of text of your choice. We'll finish the class with a discussion about the process and anything else that feels useful to you. While I welcome participants with all levels of experience, those joining should have a strong interest in poetry and be looking to develop their practice, whether that means making their first ever poem or exploring an unfamiliar form. While watching film and writing short stories I lived in Italy for 8 years where I studied screenwriting and studied English basically since kindergarten.
