This class will take a look at individual strengths and weaknesses within writing ability and expression and aid in improving the skills and talents you already possess.

When we learn about poetry at school, the type of work we're encouraged to read is extremely limited, with the focus falling mainly on long dead authors and outdated forms. In this masterclass we'll look at a range of contemporary poetic practices, with a particular focus on erasure poetry, and begin to move away from what we've been taught and what we think we know. Sharing a range of example pieces by established poets, I'll show you how the language and materials that we find all around us can be used to create poems that exist at the intersection of literature and visual art. After exploring some of the creative techniques and processes involved in the making of erasure poems, you'll have an opportunity to create one of your own using a piece of text of your choice. We'll finish the class with a discussion about the process and anything else that feels useful to you. While I welcome participants with all levels of experience, those joining should have a strong interest in poetry and be looking to develop their practice, whether that means making their first ever poem or exploring an unfamiliar form. No, the 3 fields of study don't come together - unless specifically requested. You are probably more familiar with courses titled Creative Writing than Screenwriting. You might be wondering if there's any difference. Yes and no. Every form of writing has a pattern, a structure that you encounter over and over again. The creativity is the imagination that you put in while following the structure. (Or breaking it if you please). What you will learn is: The structure in 3 acts, the theory of the characters, the dialogue, the dynamics of a scene, how to construct a dialogue, the difference between theme and topic and much more. While watching film and writing short stories I lived in Italy for 8 years where I studied screenwriting and studied English basically since kindergarten. I still struggle with learning French so I know the challenges and difficulties of learning a foreign language, especially one that might be unlike everything you know.

This class is for anyone interested in writing their own songs. The core of it will be week-by-week feedback sessions for a new song you are working on. I will be encouraging you to write a new song every week - this can be a finished song or just a snippet of an idea. Writing one song a week will not only motivate you to write more material, but it will also allow you to practise the craft of songwriting regularly and with many different types of songs and ideas. The feedback sessions will be very relaxed, discussing the positive aspects of your song, as well as looking at the things to improve on in order to take it to the next level. One of the most important things to me, is to tailor my class specifically to your needs and interests. For example, if you want to write pop songs, then we'll focus in that area particularly. Or if you want to write songs based on the guitar, piano etc, then again, we'll focus on this particularly. The main thing is that the class suits you. Also, in order to inspire you and supplement your songwriting skills, we will be studying lyrics from many different types of songs, taking a close look at what the lyric means and what makes it effective. This additional aspect of the class will help you develop a sharper understanding of lyric writing which you can then apply to your own songs.
