About Me
Mrs. Abigail is from Honduras in Central America. Her parents enrolled her in violin classes at the young age of 7, despite some initial resistance to practicing daily. However, she soon fell deeply in love with the instrument and its wonderful noise. Abigail continued her musical studies at the National Conservatory of Music in her country, and later graduated from the National Pedagogical University, Magna Cum Laude in the career of Music Education. was under the tutelage of Pascual Garcia in the Conservatory of Music in Honduras and fortunate enough to also be taught by a variety of top musicians around the U.S. This includes Dr. Kirsten Yon Associate Professor of Violin and Chair of the String Division at the University of Houston and Dr. Everaldo Martinez, concertmaster of the Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra.
Education
She has performed in Houston's Orchestra On Call, Youth Orchestra Of Americas (YOA-Honduras), Mesoamerican Orchestra, Honduran Youth Symphony Orchestra, Conservatory Orchestra, University’s Jazz Ensemble and the Philarmonic Orchestra of Honduras. Also, she won a full scholarship to play in the MasterWorks Festival, and also received a scholarship with the State Department of the U.S. to study at the University of Arizona.
Experience / Qualifications
The teaching experience includes employment by the Organization of American States where she taught impoverished and underrepresented youth in her home country how to sing and play orchestra instruments. It was a truly eye-opening, challenging, and beautiful experience for her. She has taught at other public and private institutions with a wide range of age groups and backgrounds. She currently lives in Dallas, Texas with her husband Justin. She is bilingual (Español!) and as an additional note, she is credentialed in dance, acting, and drawing, but that is a story for another time. Her teaching style is creative, but organized, allowing the student to enjoy the adventure of education, while still offering technical and effective guidance throughout. She is grateful for your consideration and excited to help you fall in love with music as she did as a young girl.
