Helena’s teaching experience with children and adults, professional and amateur musicians, spans more then 10 years, having taught singing, music theory and piano in Croatia, Canada, Germany and Australia. Her singing lessons cover fundamental technique, a mix of traditional and modern vocal exercises and songs that the singer wants to learn. She encourages diversity of genre and being open to learning all styles. Auditions preparations are offered, as well as beginner to intermediate piano and theory lessons. I'm a former New York City voice teacher/coach, professional singer and an award winning composer who has relocated to Berlin. I've taught with the most reputable children's musical theatre organizations in NYC with students of all ages as well as private students and I've worked with Broadway stars such as Laura Osnes, Karen Mason and Ron Bohmer, who have also recorded my music, and I'm excited to bring my 20 yrs of teaching experience to Berlin! I'm a classically trained singer who performed with the San Francisco Opera and other companies both in opera and musical theatre for many years. I graduated in piano with the highest honors under the guidance of Maestro Roberto Corlianò. Later I worked in: Salzburg, Austria (as a piano teacher's assistant) and later in Italy and in the Netherlands as a piano teacher. I started learning piano at the age of five and was lucky enough to work with the same teacher for thirteen years. During my university years at the University Mozarteum Salzburg and the University of the Arts Berlin, I had the chance to experience different teachers and approaches to music. Through this, I came to understand how important it is to find a teacher you connect with, and how our needs can change throughout our musical journey.

In my teaching, I prioritize giving my students the tools they need to become independent musicians themselves: knowing how to practice effectively, improving their sight-reading skills (which opens up an entire library of music), understanding their own strengths and areas where they can improve, and building a solid foundation of basic music theory as far as it is relevant for their piano playing.

A typical lesson looks like this: we start with a warm-up, review the previous week's practice, work on current repertoire, and set clear goals for the week ahead. I focus on helping students approach new music with more understanding and confidence.

At the same time, I feel that individuality can sometimes be overlooked in the process of improving as musicians. For me, it is equally important to leave space for creativity, through improvisation, exploring different interpretation options, listening to different recordings, and discovering different repertoire or musical styles.
