I went to college for Traditional Eastern Arts, with a concentration in Tai Chi. During my time at college, I studied Eastern Philosophy including Taoism (Daoism), Buddhism, and Hinduism. Since graduating I have taught multiple people Tai Chi, meditation and discussed Eastern Philosophy. I continue to study Eastern Religions and continue to meditate. Most of these experiences have been with small groups or 1 on 1. My approach to teaching is to meet the student where they are. I start every class with a small meditation practice, then jump into the topic of the day. During my first class, I will see what the student already knows and start with the basics of Eastern Philosophy then move into the religions. After they have the groundwork, I will start comparing them to Western Religions. My approach is extremely agnostic without pushing an religious agenda.

The proposal is to explore the nuances of a spoken essay about the perceptions obtained during the reading of significant literary works, with the book Grande Sertão: Veredas, by Guimarães Rosa, being selected for this course. Here, we will seek to understand the intricacies of the plot, deepen the analysis of the characters and unveil the layers of meaning present in the work that constructed it, aiming to enrich the literary experience and expand our understanding of existential philosophy. The subject focuses on the concept of 'Bardo' embedded within a Buddhist cosmological framework. Basic terms and concepts of Buddhist cosmology will be introduced and discussed, so beginners should not face any difficulty to follow. The "Bardo" as an intermediate state of reality has made thorough impact in the West through the Tibetan funerary text of Bardo Thodol ( the Great Liberation through Hearing in the Intermediate state) and Evans-Wentz's translated text, the so-called "The Tibetan Book of the Dead". A number of commentaries have been piled upon the original content and particularly Jung's commentary approaches the subject at a psycho-cosmological level. As part of our classes, we will also discuss Jung's commentary to the text to understand the reception of the original bardo concept in the western intellectual history. Throughout the fascinating journey of pluralistic realities and the cosmic drama of birth-death-rebirth, the class will take up a contemplative and critical thinking form of engagement, where there will be ample opportunities to question the basic matrix of reality, ordinary experiences and also key concepts from intellectual history.
