I have deeply enjoyed Australian and European History since high school, where I received top marks, through university to the present, where I still read and learn history on a regular basis. I am most familiar with Australian history from European arrival, through Federation and the conflicts of the 21st century, through to present day. However am always trying to improve my knowledge of Indigenous history. I have also studied extensively Australia's global relationships over time, with countries such as the UK, the US and China. Regarding European History, I am familiar not only with the impact of wider trends such as the printing press, reformation, industrialization and colonization across history but also with the specific histories (and personalities that make them) of the UK, France, Germany, Russia and Spain. I have deeply enjoyed US History since high school, where I received top marks, through university andto the present, where I still read and learn history on a regular basis. I am most familiar with mainland history from US Independence to the present day, however am always trying to improve my knowledge about Native American history, and the territories. I have also studied extensively the impact of the US on the wider world and its relations with the global community. I believe it is important to teach history from a wide variety of perspectives. In recent years, I have particularly tried to focus on history retold from the perspective of those left out of the traditional view, which is really just anyone who isn't a white, upper-class, European male. This broader and more complex view of history leads to a more nuanced understanding of the past, particularly from a social perspective.

Having taught both English and History for several years, I have extensive experience helping students improve both their passion for the subjects and their academic attainment. I completed my PGCE in Teaching at the University of Oxford, and have worked in a variety of educational settings, including schools in the UK, as well as international schools in Dubai and China. This diverse experience has given me a strong understanding of what students need to engage with a subject and succeed academically. In my classes, I focus on a range of skills, including exam techniques. As an Edexcel Examiner, I have firsthand experience with the exam boards’ expectations and can provide tailored support with essay writing, general fluency, and overall exam preparation. My aim is to ensure that each lesson is specifically tailored to meet the demands of the exam boards while fostering a love for learning.

Approach to Teaching – I favor a structured approach. I devise lesson plans in advance of every lesson, catering to the student's specific needs. – Academic lessons tend to be structured around specific sections of the syllabus, or particular topics that students require help with. – I employ a seminar-style format. I flesh out ideas with the aid of quotations, other audio-visual resources, and analytical commentary. I structure my lesson plans with a view to providing gaps, in which students are able to ask questions about the content. I am also happy for students to interrupt the flow of the lesson if a burning question arises. – I use Powerpoint to provide students with a variety of resources and visual stimuli. Lesson Structure – Academic lessons tend to be 45 minutes to an hour in length, but I can adapt my teaching schedule to provide students with additional support if needed. – Typically violin lessons range in length from 30 minutes to an hour, but I am flexible: I am more than happy to devise a lesson structure that caters to a student's requirements. Academic Credentials – I am a candidate for a Ph.D. in Music at the University of Cambridge. – I hold an MPhil in Music from the University of Cambridge, where I specialized in Historical Musicology and Musical Aesthetics. – I have a first-class music degree (74.4%) from the University of Manchester, where I won three Hargreaves Prizes for Academic Achievement. – I have worked as an Assistant Music Teacher, which involved teaching Music A-Level students. Professional Credentials – I have worked as a private violin teacher for 7 years (since I was 17). I have taught a variety of students, from beginners starting their instrumental training to more advanced performers looking to improve their technical facility and performance skills. – I have an extensive portfolio of performing credits on documentary films. Recent highlights include the BAFTA-nominated score for the BBC docuseries on Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein 'House of Maxwell' (BBC2, 2022), and 'Sir Alex Ferguson: Never Give In' (Netflix) (Passion Pictures / Universal Pictures) (2021). – I have extensive experience as an orchestral musician and chamber music performer. I led the University of Cambridge Experimental Music Ensemble (CUEME) when I was studying for my master's degree at the University of Cambridge. I also led the University of Manchester Chamber Orchestra in the second year of my undergraduate degree at the University of Manchester and premiered a good deal of new music with The Eskandari String Quartet. – I have performed at the West Road Concert Hall (University of Cambridge), the Lee Tseng Hall (Wolfson College Cambridge), the Buxton International Festival, the Manchester International Festival, and Bridgewater Hall. – I achieved a distinction (92%) in my ATCL Diploma in violin performance, and a First (78%) in the final violin recital of my undergraduate degree. Expected Ability of Students – Academic level: Beginner through to GCSE, A-Level, and Undergraduate Music and History of Philosophy

The term "Oxbridge" is a collective term that refers to the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, the two oldest, wealthiest, and most exclusive educational establishments in the United Kingdom. Both are regularly listed amongst the top universities in the world and entry is correspondingly difficult. The notoriously tough process consists of personal statements, references, interviews, aptitude tests and more. As a recent graduate of the University of Oxford, I am well-versed with the admissions process and have personally experienced the challenges and requirements of gaining admission to these universities. Furthermore, my successful academic background in the humanities has given me a strong foundation to guide students through the rigorous academic expectations that they will encounter when they arrive at their dream university. I am passionate about helping students reach their academic goals. In my time at Oxford, I was an active member of the access community which sought to mentor prospective students. As part of that, I worked with students of all abilities from all over the United Kingdom, providing seminars, lectures, mock interviews and coaching. I was particularly praised for my teaching style and ability to communicate complex ideas effectively. Whilst I offer a structured course for those who want it, which covers the most important aspects of the application process, my tutoring service is bespoke and I am available to provide individual sessions focusing on the areas of your choice. Each session is tailored to the needs of my students. Whether you require the A-Z course, or individual lessons, I will collaborate with the student to devise a plan of action that will give them the best chance to meet their goals. The Course: The Oxford Entrance Preparation Course is designed to prepare students for the rigorous admissions processes of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. It aims to provide students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and guidance to support them in their applications. Students will gain a deep understanding of the universities, the application process, and what it is like to study at Oxbridge. The course will focus on the key academic and personal qualities that Oxford looks for in its applicants, and how students can develop and showcase these qualities. Requirements: There are few specific prerequisites for this course, but students should have a good command of the English language, a genuine interest in attending the Universities of Oxford or Cambridge, and a passion for studying. It is recommended that students have a very strong academic background, but a good academic background does not necessarily exclude the student from making a successful application. N.b. I cannot guarantee that you or your child will get accepted into Oxbridge (this is subjective and, every year, thousands of deserving students make unsuccessful attempts) but we'll work together to make sure you stand the greatest possible chance of making a successful application.
