Tuition in Violin/ Viola Performance, Musicianship, Music Theory, and Music History
Approach to Teaching
– I favour a structured approach. I devise lesson plans in advance of every lesson, catered to the student's specific needs.
– Violin lessons tend to be carefully planned to focus on specific technical aspects of performance. To train musicality, I often teach this through the use of Kreutzer and Fiorillo etudes, Dont studies, and also pieces of repertoire catered to the student's musical interests and technical requirements.
– I am open to considering student repertoire suggestions if they are particularly passionate about a certain piece.
Lesson Structure
– Typically violin lessons range in length from 30 minutes to an hour, but I am flexible: I am more than happy to devise a lesson structure that caters for a student's requirements.
Credentials
– I am a Musicology PhD candidate at the University of Cambridge.
– I have worked as a private violin teacher for 7 years (since I was 17). I have taught a variety of students, from beginners starting their instrumental training, to more advanced performers looking to improve their technical facility and performance skills.
– I have performed at West Road Concert Hall (University of Cambridge), The Lee Tseng Hall (Wolfson College Cambridge), Buxton International Festival, Manchester International Festival, and The Bridgewater Hall.
– I have an extensive portfolio of performing credits on documentary films; recent highlights include the docuseries on Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein 'House of Maxwell' (BBC2, 2022), and 'Sir Alex Ferguson: Never Give In' (Netflix) (Passion Pictures / Universal Pictures) (2021). Reviews (1)
My first lesson with Daniel was just what I wanted and more. Daniel made me feel very comfortable and let me play some music I had been working on. Then Daniel looked at all aspects of my playing in a thorough manner and signposted plans for future lessons. I was really wanting my technique to be reviewed thoroughly and Daniel did exactly this, in a very supportive and encouraging manner. It was incredible to hear the change to my playing Daniel helped me make within the hour.
Looking forward to the next lesson! Many thanks!
Approach to Teaching
– I favor a structured approach. I devise lesson plans in advance of every lesson, catering to the student's specific needs.
– Academic lessons tend to be structured around specific sections of the syllabus, or particular topics that students require help with.
– I employ a seminar-style format. I flesh out ideas with the aid of quotations, other audio-visual resources, and analytical commentary. I structure my lesson plans with a view to providing gaps, in which students are able to ask questions about the content. I am also happy for students to interrupt the flow of the lesson if a burning question arises.
– I use Powerpoint to provide students with a variety of resources and visual stimuli.
Lesson Structure
– Academic lessons tend to be 45 minutes to an hour in length, but I can adapt my teaching schedule to provide students with additional support if needed.
– Typically violin lessons range in length from 30 minutes to an hour, but I am flexible: I am more than happy to devise a lesson structure that caters to a student's requirements.
Academic Credentials
– I am a candidate for a Ph.D. in Music at the University of Cambridge.

I led the University of Cambridge Experimental Music Ensemble (CUEME) when I was studying for my master's degree at the University of Cambridge. I also led the University of Manchester Chamber Orchestra in the second year of my undergraduate degree at the University of Manchester and premiered a good deal of new music with The Eskandari String Quartet.

Xanthe
Violin player of 14 years offering music lessons for all agesI have a real passion for music and that's why I would love to help inspire and guide new musicians on their quest to learn the violin. Age is irrelevant when it comes to my lessons but the most important thing is that the student comes with a real incentive to learn.
Everyone's musical journey is different and many people decide to learn an instrument for a different reason. Therefore, the regular structure for a lesson would very much differ from person to person. For example, beginners would mostly focus on sight-reading, proper form and technique. However, someone with a slight musical background could begin by learning pieces that they want to play and I would guide them with how to encompass the piece better and make slight adjustments to their technique along the way.
When it comes to young children, I've worked in nursery and primary schools with ages from 3-7. The most important thing is that they have fun during the lessons and gain a real respect for music early on. Technique, theory and sight-reading are still incredibly important but what's most important is that the child is having an enjoyable time while learning.
I have a strong musical background as I've been playing violin and piano for 14 years, I also have a great understanding of music theory. I've performed in multiple concerts of sizes of up to 5000 attendees. I was also established enough to have achieved a full music scholarship to a performing arts secondary school and college. At GCSE I achieved an A* in music and I would be more than happy to help GCSE music students with their music theory and/or composition piece.

I have played the violin for over 20 years and am currently doing a master ́s of music in violin. Music is my passion, I have been teaching violin for 5 years, in music schools as well as privately from the ages of 7 to 60.
My aim in teaching is to enable the student to experience the beauty, richness and also the fun side of music, by helping to develop the technical skills needed to express oneself on the violin. I find it very important to take into account the personal goals and wishes of the student and to create an atmosphere of encouragement, creativity and mutual understanding.

Violin for Everyone: Violin lessons in English or French!Hi! I'm a French violinist currently in my 4th year of a classical violin Bachelor at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague, and I hold a DEM (Diplôme d'Études Musicales) from the CRR de Paris (Regional Paris conservatory) where I studied with Florin Szigeti.
I’ve had the opportunity to participate in masterclasses with Josef Spacek, Pavel Vernikov, Olivier Charlier, Igor Volochine, Marianne Piketty, and I love sharing everything I’ve learned from them through my own teaching.
I have experience with Orchestra and chamber music as well. I had the pleasure of participating in a side by side project with the Orchestre Philarmonique de Radio France and play in various prestigious settings.
If you wanted to play violin as a child and couldn't, or if your child wants to start playing, then you're in the right place!
My lessons are based on a positive and encouraging approach:
✨ Mistakes are welcome — they’re part of the learning process!
🎯 We set clear, achievable goals together, and work step by step
🎶 Most importantly: we enjoy making music together !
Whether you're a complete beginner, coming back to violin after a break, or already experienced, I’d be happy to help you grow and enjoy your musical journey.
Lessons available in English and French.
In-person in The Hague, or online
⚠️Only online lessons during the summer as I won't be in the Hague until September.
Feel free to message me — I’d love to hear from you!
