Drawing and writing are two ancient forms of expression that many artists have used before becoming masters in their field. Traditional frame-by-frame animation (on paper or in 2D on a computer) is a less ancient process but highly instructive in the understanding of movement. This audiovisual technique obviously allows us to express ourselves in a more modern medium that combines image and sound to entertain, make people laugh, move them or transmit strong values. With 12 years of experience in the Academy of Fine Arts, a Bachelor's degree in Visual and Spatial Arts from Saint-Luc, Brussels, and a Master's degree in Animation Cinema from the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent (the oldest animation teaching department in Europe), I offer: - For beginners: an initiation and understanding of the basics of drawing from imagination and observation in order to gradually acquire an increasingly solid technique. - For intermediate/students in art education or more experienced enthusiasts: development of their already acquired techniques, correction of defects as well as help with projects requested by the school or for amateurs who wish to design a written/drawn/animated work for their pleasure. - For advanced/higher education students in ESA: sustained assistance and coaching for the development of projects whether in drawing, writing, storyboarding, animation or concept (installation, video game experience). Finally, I offer these more seasoned artists the development of their own style in order to distinguish themselves and offer a unique aesthetic for their singular point of view on the world.

I hold a degree in Illustration and Visual Media, and creativity has always been at the heart of everything I do. Teaching is one of my greatest passions. I love working with students of all ages, from young learners to adults, and I’m constantly inspired by the excitement that comes from discovering something new. In my classes, we explore Art, Digital Art, and Art History dynamically and engagingly. Lessons are hands-on, visually rich, and designed to make complex ideas more accessible. I use a wide range of examples, visual maps, and interactive exercises to support different learning styles, especially helpful for visual learners and students with DSA. Thanks to my background as a graphic designer, I bring practical, real-world experience to the classroom. I teach using professional tools like Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Canva, helping students not only understand artistic theory but also build valuable digital skills used in the industry today. Here’s what my students benefit from: A clear understanding of design workflows: from concept to final layout A trained eye for composition, colour, typography, and visual balance Creative exercises that encourage personal expression and experimentation Guidance through design challenges using practical problem-solving Real project experience with tips, tools, and insights beyond textbooks I’m a patient and approachable teacher who believes in building a relationship based on trust, open communication, and creative freedom. My goal is to create a safe and inspiring space where students feel confident to express themselves, ask questions, and grow.

My daughter (K.) had her first lesson with Smaranda today and she enjoyed it every much. Smaranda asked questions to understand K.'s preferences and interests so that she can tailor the class accordingly, which also made for a highly enjoyable class. Smaranda took the time to explain things at first and then let K. explore the assignment at her pace. She shared tips and tricks that K. found very useful. All in all a great first lesson, and K. is very much looking forward to the next one.
