With a master's degree from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (MDW), I have been helping people discover the joy of the violin through shared music-making—whether in lessons, chamber music, or on stage—since my student days! Hi, I'm Caitlin! I have been playing violin/viola for almost 30 years and teaching it for 15 years! I have travelled all over the world playing. I have enjoyed studying with some of the greatest teachers such as Sally Thomas and Kurt Nikkanen. Teaching is my passion and I have a studio of 60+ students of all ages, abilities, and techniques! Lessons for all ages and abilities, from beginner to advanced. Learning how to start playing the violin or mastering your skills and meeting your goals. I teach all types of technique from Suzuki to traditional to fiddle!

I am teaching all levels, all ages, all kind of stile on the violin or viola. Of course mostly classical, but if you wish we can also play folk, pop or other kind of songs. We can focus on playing, on musicality, technical skills, chamber music, as you wish. We could also do general music education, or basic practical musical skills and training the ears. I don't use one specific method since I feel every person function differently I i like to design something personal what works the best.

Violin private (or small group) lessons are offered in classical, traditional, and rebetiko violin, classical theory, Makam theory and improvisation for all ages, from beginners to advanced levels. The lessons are taught by a qualified violinist (Degree in classical violin, Orfeio conservatory of Athens, Greece) and bachelor student of CODARTS Academy (Rotterdam, Netherlands) - World music (Ottoman violin) with four years of teaching experience. There is also the option to learn theory, solfège. Bio: Yvonne was born in Kavala in 1998. She began her violin studies at the age of seven under the guidance of Z. Zlateva. She studied classical violin and music theory and obtained her diploma with "highest honors" in 2022 from the Orpheus Conservatory in Athens, under the guidance of her teachers, M. Plesti and D. Semsis. Since 2023, she has been a student at Codarts WMDC (Rotterdam, Netherlands), pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Turkish music-Ottoman violin (teacher: Burak Savas). She has been a member of many orchestras as well as various music ensembles and workshops (music ensemble with A. Liakakis and T. Gouvelis, classical violin with M. Szlezer, experimental violin with F. Siotas, composition and orchestration with V. Papadopoulos, oriental violin with G. Papaioannou, M. Kouloumis, composition and orchestration with C. Erdogan, M. Nasser, Y. Tockan, G. Baktagir, Kudsi Erguner’s ensemble, Greek traditional music with M. Mavroidi, folk orchestra with M. Pappou, etc.) and has performed on some of the most important music stages in the country. She has composed music for dance performances and short films. Additionally, she is a graduate student at the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Her first album, titled "Myrra," with T. Kofodimos, was released in December 2023. She has taught classical violin at the Pefki Municipal Conservatory, the Athens Conservatory, the Trofonio Conservatory of Livadeia, and has four years of experience teaching private lessons to students of all ages. My idea: Each lesson is unique and tailored to the student's needs. We can adjust the lesson according to what each person desires: from classical technique, exercises, and repertoire, to Maqam theory, taqsim, traditional/rebetiko/Ottoman repertoire, and of course, improvisation. My fundamental principle is that technique comes first, but what's important is that musical knowledge is not sterile but enjoyable. I achieve this through a variety of repertoire, a pleasant atmosphere, and especially through group playing, both among ourselves and with other students and musicians.

My teaching philosophy is based on the belief that technical dexterity and agility on the instrument are requisites to finding freedom to express oneself musically. Taking into consideration that many university students are there because they already display a high level of talent, it is the job of the professor to make sure that fundamental elements are intact. The first order in this direction is to establish an ergonomic physical approach to the violin, then to achieve familiarity with the fingerboard and geography of the instrument. The second, is to develop mastery of bow distribution and all matters that deal with weight, placement and speed. The third deals with the left hand and how to shift, vibrate, and build agility in the fingers. The fourth is the musical application of all of these elements within the musical context.

My name is Michael Shingo and I am a classically-trained violinist, pianist, and composer, offering in-person lessons in Rotterdam, Netherlands and the surrounding area as well as online lessons through Zoom. I have extensive experience teaching violin and piano lessons to students from ages five to adult. In my teaching, I emphasize efficient, goal-oriented practice, and provide a strong technical foundation while always keeping musicality and expression in mind. I encourage my students to develop problem-solving skills that will ultimately allow them to create their own interpretations about a piece of music. I believe that each student has a different learning style and, with this knowledge, I design a program of study specifically for them. Learning music is all about tackling technical or musical problems in many different ways until we find an approach that works for you. As multi-instrumentalist who also writes music, I can offer many different perspectives on a single issue and draw from a wide range of knowledge that serves me in my daily creative pursuits.

The Violin lessons are focused on building a solid foundation in the basic technical aspects of violin playing, developing musicality, learning a variety of pieces from simple to progressively more complex ones as the student’s skills improve with time. This process starts with the correct posture of the body and proper hold of the violin and bow and moves on to being able to play maintain a correct posture without needing reminders or corrections. Proper intonation with the fingers in the first position and bow control also are fundamental to this foundation stage. The pedagogy used is an eclectic approach drawing from different approaches and inspired by Ivan Galamian, Simon Fischer and contemporaries like Mimi Zweig. The primary repertoire used will be based of the Suzuki books and supplemented with other pieces as the tutor sees fit. A sincere desire and motivation to learn the violin is of utmost importance. Even the best pedagogic methods will fail if the student has no interest in applying what is learned in the lesson to the practice done at home. Practice at home accounts for a significant portion of the progress that can be made. I like to believe that violin lessons are like railway tracks that keeps the student on the right path, allows for new inputs, techniques, insights on the art of violin playing, correction of mistakes and guides the direction the student is heading in. Practice time outside the class is most important and acts as the engine of the train. Without the engine, the train will sit on the tracks, not going anywhere. A minimum amount of 30 Minutes per day is advised as practice time.

Since this Apprentus page isn't working properly and I can't offer live lessons, I'm writing it here again: lessons for children aged five to ten take place live in Landsberg am Lech!!! I have been teaching in Munich, Landsberg since 1998 and during my violin studies in Munich and Lucerne, children from the earliest 5 years and motivated young people, as well as preparing for entrance exams at universities. My goal is that the children get good and solid technology with fun and joy, so the word MOTIVATION is very important to me and the students find their own way, whether music as a hobby, as a balance or as a study. My students learn a very good basic basis and their techniques based on various works and various musical styles, so I can enable them to develop later and find out for themselves which style they want to pursue in their life. I also work with various music colleges and orchestras. Since piano was my minor, I also teach piano for beginners. The trial lesson is free.

I am, since 2011, the lead violinist of the musical band "Shukar Nation", with whom I play pop-rock music merged with Balkan and East-European influences. All these years we brought our live shows to numerous festivals, pubs, weddings and private parties, raising happiness amongst our spectators and creating an atmosphere of joy, dance and good vibes. Musical background: Solo (café-concert), quartet and chamber music. I've started to play the violin when I was 4-years old. I have a solid background in classical music, developed during my high-school and college years (Music School), having gained, in the end, a quite extended repertoire that includes, amongst others, violin works of pre-classical, classical and contemporary composers (Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart, Beethoven, Bruch, etc.). Pedagogy and teaching experience I worked as a Visiting Researcher - Dept. of Philosophy - Humboldt University, Berlin (2015) and at the University of Cologne (2013). From 2010 to 2017, I taught seminaries on German Idealism - Faculty of Philosophy, “Al. I. Cuza” University, Romania. I defended my PhD thesis in 2013 and my post-doctoral dissertation in 2015. Between 2016 - 2018, I worked as a member of the project “Heritage and Threat (HeAT)”, initiated by the Dept. of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies (University of Copenhagen, Denmark). Since 2017, I am working as an Editor for London Academic Publishing, UK.
