Besides being very active as a performing violinist, I have also been teaching children and adults for years with pleasure. I graduated from the conservatory and also graduated as an orthopedagogue and music therapist. As a result, I have a lot of knowledge and patience when working with children/adults who need specific attention. Think of people with autism, giftedness and mild intellectual disabilities. Of course, you are also welcome as an adult with or without additional challenges. I have 3 children myself, 2 of whom are highly gifted. This has ensured that I teach these children with even more enthusiasm, understanding and patience. It is also possible to indicate in advance in conversation what your child is struggling with and how violin lessons can help with that. For example, think of making contact and feeling with autistic children. We can work together on such details like intonation, phrasing, sound, virtuosity, etc. I can help to choose the appropriate program, or just work on that one given by your teacher. 2) I also can give occasional classes when you need some urgent help: maybe your teacher is on holiday, and you're preparing for important exam/recording/concert. These are very straightforward classes, with precise goals and detailed practice. 3) Starting from scratch. Please pay attention that I accept this kind of inquiries only with kids older than 12. We will learn the instrument, must-have music theory, and make all the way through, from zero to first favorite melodies played by your child! Daphne is a teacher of both Suzuki and traditional violin, and has been teaching for the past 22 years. She has taught privately in Greece and the UK, at various music conservatories in Athens, the Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music in London, St Catherine’s British School in Athens, the South Shore Conservatory in Boston, MA, and Ecole FACE in Montreal. She is a founding member of/teaches through Bariolage School of Music in Montreal and also offers lessons via FaceTime. Daphne also enjoys coaching ensembles, and has worked with the South Shore Conservatory Youth Orchestra (SSCYO). String instruments are often associated with written classical music and, because of their technical complexity, many players rarely dare to move beyond the safety of the score. But improvisation is not a mysterious talent we are born with. It requires as much discipline as freedom and develops through a specific set of skills that can be understood, practiced, and ultimately transformed into performance. After more than ten years of teaching improvisation to professional string players at conservatory level, I have developed an approach that rethinks fingerboard visualization and the relationship between the ear, the hand, and the instrument, making improvisation more accessible to string players from all backgrounds. In these lessons, I will help you understand the logic of the fingerboard, transpose effortlessly in any key, and visualize the shapes of any chord, expanding its harmonic possibilities for accompaniment. I will also show you how to create effective grooves through chops and percussive techniques, while developing a melodic language that goes beyond scales and patterns. We will explore styles including Jazz, Blues, Fusion, Pop, Rock, Brazilian, and World Music. (According to the style, we can also work with loops and effects.)
