My experience as a cellist begins at 8 years of age and develops in continuous classes, concerts, auditions, teaching practices and collaborations with numerous orchestras, including: Orquesta de Elche, de Murcia, Ciudad de Orihuela, Orquesta de Alicante, Universitaria, UCAM Orchestra, Orfeón Murciano Fernández Caballero, among others. Hello! My name is Julia, I am an American violist and violinist, and I teach in English and French. I just moved to Montpellier to join the Opera Orchestra of Montpellier as an Alto second soliste. I am a graduate of The Juilliard School, a former academist with the Kammerakademie Potsdam, and a former violist of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. I teach both viola and violin, from beginner to advanced levels, children and adults. I am also available for practice help sessions or one time coachings. I grew up learning through the Suzuki method, so I teach with an emphasis on developing a good ear as well as good instrumental technique. My teaching method is flexible, as I can give lessons for a specific purpose (passing an exam, passing a test...) as well as working with people who are just looking to learn an instrument as a hobby. I have experience teaching children from 6 years old up to adults. Depending on the age and the goal you want to achieve with the classes, the lessons can be between 30 and 90 minutes long. I love teaching piano and violin and have taught many students, adults and children, beginners to advanced. I have also taught children and adults with learning disabilities. Each lesson is tailored to each individual and pupils can learn to play through classic/rock/pop music. Lessons are fun they also include improvisation and music quizzes and music theory. Grades may also be worked towards and taken if pupil wishes and all my pupils have achieved merits or distinctions. I have played violin for shows in provincial theatres and in the Millitaire Orchestra at Mansion House, Guildhall, Tower of London and The Painted Hall in Greenwich and also played in various quartets for weddings. I have a PA system and play an electric violin for weddings and functions playing pop or classical music. I have also taken a year's course in introduction to Music Therapy which was a very interesting course and am currently studying for Certificate for Music Educators.
