Piano Lessons in Berlin by a German native speaker

(German version further down)
I enjoy teaching because it requires a deeper knowledge of the material than if one is only performing music. I am continuously learning too.
I do not think that it is important how old you are or in what environment you grew up.
To engage with music as a result of learning an instrument can bring your brain into a healthy state of ongoing change.
People who are "without any talent" for music do not exist. Everyone can engage with music and enjoy it.
I can teach piano:
- involving sheet music or not, depending on what you prefer.
- or/and music theory lessons
- or/and improvisation
- or/and Jazz
- or/and Ear Training
- or/and Composition.
The lessons can be held in English or German or a mixture of both.
I teach close to Friedrichstraße in Berlin. The lessons can be done via Skype too.
You can read about me as a performing musician here:
Julius (*1995) is a German pianist and composer, graduated from the University of Arts Berne in Switzerland in 2017 with honors.
In July 2019 he finished his Masters in the European Jazz Masters Program through the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen with exchange semesters in Berlin and Amsterdam.
Throughout his studies, he was lucky enough to receive artistic guidance from Colin Vallon, Django Bates, Harmen Fraanje, Simon Toldam, Peter Bruun, Greg Cohen, and Michael Moore.
Julius was granted a scholarship by Lyra Stiftung Zürich in 2015 and 2016. Tours with his own bands have been supported by different fundings from Switzerland and Germany.
He performed all across Europe during the past years.
German:
When teaching, it's important to have a deeper understanding of everything than when "just" making music. I'm always learning as a teacher.
It doesn't matter how old you are or whether you grew up in a music-rich or music-poor environment. Engaging with music can put our brains into a healthy state of constant change and growth.
There are no people who are "talentedless" when it comes to music. Everyone can engage with music and enjoy it.
I offer lessons with or without sheet music, depending on your preference. If you're interested, I also teach music theory, improvisation, jazz, ear training, and composition.
Classes are held in German or English, or a mixture of both. I teach near Friedrichstrasse in Berlin. Classes can also be held via Skype.

About Me
Julius, born 1995, is a german composer, producer, pianist and singer. He studied jazz piano 2014-2017 at University of the Arts, Berne. 2017-2019 he was enrolled in the European Jazz Master Programme at Rytmisk Musik Konservatorium in Copenhagen with exchange semesters at Jazz Institut Berlin and Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Since 2015 Julius received several scholarships from Lyra Foundation Zurich, Musikfonds, Deutscher Musikrat, deutsche Orchesterstiftung & Berliner Senat. Deutschlandfunk wrote about his music: "exciting and very colorful music (...) Lyrical, fragile moods blend beautifully with powerful, energetic passages“. From 2021 - 2023, Julius co-curated the concert series "lit" at Donau115 in Berlin with Leipzig-based bassist Robert Lucaciu.
Julius is interested in creating genre-bending music. He draws influences from contemporary black american music, songwriters, feminist writers, electronic musicians & classical composers alike.
He leads the band immerweiter, playing his original music and performs new classical music (Rihm, Chai, Schönberg) with the duo alle bilder with singer Friederike Merz. He also works as a sideman in a variety of different projects.
In the summer of 2023 he released a solo album of electronic music, entitled "what am i doing w my life". In his instrumental compositions he focuses on different polyrhythmic structures & a consequent abolition of hierarchies within the band. In his electronic music he focuses on the use of various alternate tuning systems and textural explorations.
Over the last years he has played at prestigious venues such as HAU Hebbel am Ufer & KM28 in Berlin, Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, Schwere Reiter and Unterfahrt in Munich, Birds Eye in Basel, Dokkhuset in Trondheim, Bimhuis in Amsterdam and at festivals such as Leipziger Jazztage, Kunst am Bauen Festival Zurich, Jazzfestival Copenhagen, Mlada Praha Festival & Fusion Festival.
“Proof there's still plenty of innovation left out there” - Midwest Record
In the past Julius has performed at Parco della Musica in Rome, Jazzfestival Copenhagen, Mlada Praha Festival in Prague, Birds Eye Basel, Unterfahrt Munich, Jazzopen Stuttgart, Leipziger Jazztage, Dokkhuset in Trondheim, Fusion Festival, Schwere Reiter in Munich & Kunst am Bauen Festival in Zurich.
“It seems that Julius is spearheading a very personal new Jazz stream. (...) he is certainly one of the bright young European musicians worth following closely”
"The music is original, intricate and engrossing” Londonjazznews
