About Me
I am passionate about helping students develop confidence, overcome difficulties and achieve their full potential. I am an experienced A-Level Media Studies lecturer and Eduqas/WJEC examiner, with extensive experience of one-to-one tutoring, classroom teaching and academic mentoring.
My specialist areas include Media Studies, Film and Television Studies, media theory, analytical writing, examination preparation and scriptwriting. I can help students understand challenging concepts, analyse media products in greater depth, structure effective responses and improve their performance in assessments and examinations.
My approach begins with listening. I consider the whole student, identify the particular challenges they are facing and work with them to create a realistic plan for progress. Lessons are supportive, structured and adapted to each student’s learning needs, current level and target grade.
One 16-year-old student said that she valued my lessons because I listened to her and helped prepare her for life after school. A university student whom I mentored said that our sessions helped him become more confident, make friends and participate more fully in university life.
I hold a PhD in Communications, Culture and Media Studies, an MA with Distinction in Television Scriptwriting and a BA (Hons) in Film and Media. I am also a published media writer and have professional experience as a newspaper editor and digital magazine publisher.
Born in Wiltshire and having lived and worked for many years in Jamaica, I bring a broad cultural perspective to my teaching. My academic interests include representation, identity, British Caribbean history and the social and cultural influence of television.
I offer:
• One-to-one A-Level Media Studies tuition
• Specialist support for Eduqas/WJEC students
• Media theory and textual analysis
• Examination technique and structured analytical writing
• Assignment, coursework and project support
• Film, television and scriptwriting tuition
• Academic mentoring and confidence-building
• Support for students aiming to progress from foundational understanding to A and A* performance
My aim is not simply to help students pass an examination, but to help them become confident, thoughtful and independent learners.
