As a graduated music pedagogue, I adapt my lessons to the student's needs and interests. My goal is to give an as complete as possible preparation in the technical and artistic fields while keeping the lesson a positive, creative and constructive experience for all students, from the youngest children who didn't learn to read yet to more mature people looking for new challenges.

I teach violin and viola from beginner to advanced level and piano for beginners, integrating my lessons with tidbits of music theory in order to give the students wider knowledge and awareness.

Group lessons for two or three students are also an option.

About Me

No one is the same, therefore my lessons are completely adapted to the students' needs, interests and requests. The kind and the amount of work will be discussed at the beginning and during the teaching period with the students/parents in order to get the best from the lessons, but without being overwhelmed. It is crucial for me to maintain a pleasant and friendly atmosphere during my lessons.
I like organization and efficiency. The homework I assign is thoroughly explained on paper to avoid the risk of forgetting or misunderstanding it. With young children, I can make sure that the parents as well understand the method, so they can supervise their kids at home.
Even when a small break of a few minutes is needed I do some more relaxing but still educational activity in order to not waste time.
When I teach minors I usually communicate directly with the parents or, in case the student as well as using a cell phone, I send double messages to both the student and the parents.
My schedule can be flexible if needed and if communicated with enough advance, but I might not be able to extend the lesson if the student is late and in that case, I'd expect to be paid for the full lesson.
I'm available for answering some little questions about the homework between one lesson and the next one, as I think this can be a great help for my students in case of doubt.

Education

I graduated in Pedagogy of Violin and got my first artistic degree in 2016 at the Kärntner Landeskonservatorium in Klagenfurt (AT), where I started my studies in 2013. During these three-years period I attended, between several other subjects, weekly lessons, pedagogy classes and apprenticeship for both violin and viola.
Since 2014 I started to get baroque violin lessons and masterclasses as well and in February 2019 I got accepted in a Master for baroque violin.
In September 2016 I moved to Belgium to attend Specialized Master studies for violin at IMEP in Namur, where I eventually graduated, in order to develope my artitic skills.
In September 2023 I completed my Master studies for viola at LUCA Lemmensinstituut Leuven.
As for many musicians, the study of piano was part of my education and I've been studying it since I was 11 years old.

Experience / Qualifications

I've been teaching since 2011 as private teacher for both young and adult students. In 2013 I started my studies and apprenticeship and in 2016 I got my degree as Music Pedagogue. Since then I've been specializing further in violin and viola and working as violin, viola and piano teacher in several music schools between Belgium and Italy.

I am currently a graduate student at the Royal Conservatory of Mons, and obtained my DEM in France at the CRR de Lyon. Thanks to my years of study as well as to the competitions in which I participate, I was able to acquire a good experience allowing me to teach (music schools of Caluire-et-Cuire, Lyon, and Rillieux-la-Pape, Lyon). I will of course adapt to the repertoire chosen by the student, as well as to the type of accordion he has (chromatic accordion or standard basses).

Hello, we can't resist.
We are the orchestra “EXODUS” and unfortunately (due to illness) we are without a bass guitarist.
“EXODUS” consists of 4 guitarists, drums, key-bord – hammond organ.
A few years ago we got together to play some good music just for fun.
In the past we have accompanied many artist-singers, helped organize show programs, graced dance evenings at home and abroad, etc.
We are between 60 – 70 years old but play all kinds of music (pop, light jazz, musette, world songs with or without sung).
We have a fixed rehearsal room and do not have to set up and break down each time. Rehearsals take place every two weeks – 3 hours – in Harelbeke.

I have been giving private music lessons and fortepiano for a long time. In addition to my classical music education in 2000, I obtained my bachelor's degree in psychopedagogy in 2006. This year I am interested in expanding my practice to include more students with special needs.
I learned about the different ways music can help students with special needs. It helps them express their emotions and develop their memories and self-regulatory skills.

Clarinet lessons at all levels: from absolute beginners to advanced players.
For me as a teacher it is very important to start from the wishes, needs and competences of the student himself.
You can follow lessons via webcam, or at your home near the Ghent - Kortrijk region.

Today - after completing an extensive selection procedure - Laurens is professionally active as a clarinetist with the Royal Marine Band, one of the prestigious orchestras of the Belgian army.

In addition to his education at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent, Laurens has had the opportunity to learn several times in a number of masterclasses by, among others, Arno Piters (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra), Davide Lattuada (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra), Bart de Karter (New Amsterdam Clarinet Quartet), Pascal Moragues (Orchester de Paris), Ricardo Mataredonna (The La Monnaie Theatre), David Van Maele (Royal Music Chapel of the Guides), Bart Watté (Royal Music Chapel of the Guides) etc.

Both as a freelancer and an active member, Laurens has played in various orchestras, such as the Royal Band of the Belgian Air Force, Frascati Symphonic, the Euregio Youth Orchestra, the Mahler Student Festival Orchestra, La Chapelle Sauvage, Flanders Young Symphony Orchestra, the Ghent University Symphony Orchestra, the Ghent University Harmony Orchestra...

Since 2021, Laurens has been a member of the Meraki Wind Quintet, with which he has already successfully participated in a number of competitions, including the IMC International Music Competition 2023 (1er Prix à l'unanimité), the Euterpe Music Awards 2022 (gold prize), the Classic Pure Vienna International Music Competition 2022 (special mention), and the Fanny Mendelssohn International Online Competition 2022/23 (second prize).

In addition, Laurens is also active as a conductor, both in a symphonic and harmonic orchestra. He takes conducting lessons with Kristiina Posska (chief conductor of Flanders Symphony Orchestra), Bart Picqueur (composer and conductor) and Dimitri Bracke (conductor) and is active as a permanent conductor with the Fantasietjes in the Muziekvereniging Bellegem and freelance with various other associations.

Beatboxing is a relatively unknown discipline, even though it allows for an absolutely incredible musical variety: percussion, whistles, bass, special sounds straight out of an alien movie... our body is an instrument in itself, and learning beatbox is accessible to everyone!
(Take a look at some beatboxer videos online, you'll be amazed!)
I'll take you step by step, starting with easy and useful sounds, gradually moving towards impressive, fun sounds, or those of your choice.
In addition, I practice with you and complete your knowledge of music theory and particularly rhythm when necessary.
