Learning to play an instrument is a beautiful thing - it enlightens your creativity, musicality and inspires you to grow as a person. I would be delighted to share that journey with you. My special skills and strengths include being open and non-judgmental and simply providing you more comfortable ways of playing the violin, fixing technical problems included.
My teaching philosophy is based on giving an adequate violin school to everyone. A student needs an extensive and thought-through approach to instrumental studies. It makes playing so much more fun and easy.
I am a violin student in Sibelius Academy, finishing my Bachelor studies. I also teach regularly a 7- and 31-year old. If you need a masterclass, a preparation for a concert/competition or would just like to start taking regular violin lessons, book a time with me! :)

About Me

As an artist I want to heal and change people, simply because I know that music has that kind of power. One of the best ways of tunneling the wish for change, is through teaching. From an early age I have had a passion for teaching – passing knowledge and shifting mindset. It started in a biology lesson explaining a plant’s leaf structure and it has developed into a profession explaining and discovering the world of the violin. My teaching philosophy is focused on giving an adequate violin school to everyone so that they have the chance to play professionally or for their own fun.
For my students I am a guide through the huge musical repertoire, a mentor for mental reliability, an advisor for musical or physical problem solving and an inspector for making sure that everything is working properly at the right time.

Let me introduce myself.

I am Ángeles, an Andalusian in Finland, finishing my master degree in Music Performance at the prestigious Sibelius Academy with great professor Mari Tampere-Bezrodny. I came to Helsinki two years ago seeking for a personal and cultural growth, with huge passion for music and the need to share it. I discovered in violin teaching a new path to that energy to come true, to materialize, by inspiring and leading enthusiastic students to their best performance.

Leon graduated from the University of Cambridge, where he read Academic Music. He studied violin and viola with Lutsia Ibragimova, David Dolan and Alexander Tumanov at the Yehudi Menuhin School, a specialist music school in the UK, and was concertmaster of the Cambridge University Orchestra. Recent projects include Tippett's 'A Child of Our Time' with Martyn Brabbins and Poulenc's 'Sinfonietta' with Jac van Steen. He now lives and works as a freelance violinist and music teacher in Helsinki.

Leon is passionate about teaching violin/viola/music theory and is committed to a lifelong study of music and music pedagogy so he can share his knowledge with others. In his final years at school, he taught violin to beginners at a local primary school and, after graduating, more experienced 8-13-year-olds at a summer music camp. He has had two years' private teaching experience from a base in Cambridge. In addition, Leon has gained invaluable teaching experience from extensive informal tuition of advanced learners (conservatoire degree-level).

The format of your lesson with Leon is not set in stone! He believes that a flexible teaching style is essential to cater effectively for different abilities: reaching one's own milestones always takes priority.

If you are a beginner looking to play some of your favourite songs, for instance, the most effective strategy may be to learn the 'tricks' of the trade, or essentials only. However, if you are looking to develop a solid basis for more virtuosic playing, Leon's 'Russian-style' violin school background is ideally suited for rigorous instrumental training.

For non-beginners, Leon is also able to offer advanced teaching: this includes help with musical interpretation, the pinpointing of technical issues and anything in-between. If in doubt, please enquire.
