About Me
Maxime was born on December 27, 1995 in Woluwe Saint-Lambert in Belgium. At the age of 8, he started viola at the Braine-L'Alleud Academy of Music with Pascale Heersbrandt. He studied with her for 9 years. He also enriched his knowledge by taking courses such as music theory, singing, piano, theater, the study of harmony and the history of music. Quickly, thanks to the chamber music lessons he took with Marie-Carmen Suarez, he discovered the pleasure of playing with other musicians. In 2013, in addition to his work with Pascale Heersbrandt, he perfected his skills for a year with Daniel Rubenstein, professor at the Royal Conservatory of Mons. After successfully completing his upper secondary education and the music academy in 2013, he decided to take a year off in order to improve his technique and musicality in order to continue music professionally. That year, after a masterclass in Spain, where he met Paul De Clerck, he decided to continue his apprenticeship with him. In September 2014, Maxime therefore made his debut at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in Brussels, in the class of Paul De Clerck. After having obtained his Masters there, he decides to pursue a third cycle, the Concert-musicus, which he finishes in September 2020 with "magna cum laude" mention. During these six years, Maxime had the opportunity to participate in several masterclasses with among others Alexei Moshkov, Marjolein Dispa, Sven Arne Tepl, Maté Szucs, Veit Hertenstein, Peijun Xu and Nobiko Imai. Maxime has a passion for chamber music and continues to deepen his practice of ensemble playing. He also follows masterclasses with musicians such as Amy Norringhton, Guy Danel, Tony Nys, Philippe Graffin and Marko Ylönen. Maxime also studied at the Hochschule für Muzik und Tanz in Cologne (Germany) with professors Peijun Xu and Veit Hertenstein where he obtained his master's degree in solo instrument and chamber music with the mention “Zehr gut”. In October 2016, he had the opportunity to play with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, this project aimed at collaboration between young musicians and professionals (RCO Meets Europe). Maxime has been solo viola of the Young Belgian Strings since 2017 and has won several awards such as the Classics Belfius (2nd prize) and the Colonel and Mevrouw De Bisschop-Matthijsen Prize. In March 2020, he founded the association “L'Instant Musical” with the aim of organizing chamber music concerts. Maxime improves and plays with many colleagues of his generation as well as renowned Belgian musicians (Tony Nys, Shirly Laub ...)

I adapt easily to the student and his needs. Everything is possible and this in a climate of trust and relaxation. I am very attentive and I will do my best to get you where you want.

What if telling your story with music could be fun and playful?

Don't waste hours going around in circles, constantly searching for videos on YouTube to learn in a simple and structured way.

To finally be able to express your feelings, your emotions, all through the guitar?

It's possible! And what we'll see through my lessons: you'll learn how to tune the instrument, practice its first chords, and quickly play your first songs.

Develop your ear and musical identity by exploring styles such as pop, rock, country, blues, jazz, bossa nova, funk just to name a few.

Discover and explore the richness of scales and modes to combine them with playing expressions like hammer-ons, pull-offs, legato, bends... Does that sound like Chinese to you? I understand. Through my lessons, all of this will no longer hold any secrets for you!

Whether you have no experience or a few weeks of practice under your belt, we will go step by step, taking into account your level, so that you progress at your own pace.

Without forgetting the most important thing: have fun!

TEACHER / TRAINER

Trained in Grandes Ecoles in France and the United States (Ivy League University), our teacher has specialized and has been working for more than 15 years, in North America and Europe, in the field, in international establishments renowned, and oriented on one axis: effective training with pedagogy and meticulous methodology as the watchwords.

PLACES, FEES
- Locations: Geneva-Lausanne-Friborg-Neuchâtel-Montreux-Bâle-Sion-Sierre-Morges-Bienne. But currently, only by videoconference in accordance with national recommendations on Covid. These sessions also seem to be perfectly unanimous since they have the advantages of direct (example: quality of the interaction), without its disadvantages (ex: loss of travel time), with additional advantages (ex: of notes on the chat, which can be reread afterwards). In this context, these videoconference sessions for which you have requested me, seem to arouse a certain enthusiasm (and a certain enthusiasm). At your request, I therefore continue to offer them.

Are you a beginner?? No worries: no experience is required! 😁
I can teach you the basics to produce sounds with your saxophone: position of the embouchure (teeth, tongue, lips and vocal cords' position, an element often forgotten), fingerings, use of diafragma,...
After the first two lessons spent on the mouthpiece and neck for the sound production, we will immediately start to play some super easy duos together to practice your capacity of listening, pay attention to the other, ear training as well. I normally use the book of Peter Wastall (titled Learn as you play) as support, but it is not mandatory. There are plenty of good books btw!

Are you an intermediate / advanced student?? I am sure you can still improve in all the basics, but on a different level. I'll teach you the importance of the "voicing" (technique named by the american saxophonist and pedagogue Donald Sinta) to improve your sound production and projection as well as the capacity of correcting and improving the intonation. You can learn all about phrasing and music interpretation, from tonal music until contemporary atonal compositions. And still, you can improve your playing together, practicing in duo on different aspects like tuning, balance, interpretation, performance etc.

Book a lesson and try! If you are not happy, give me a feedback and go on. If you are happy, I will be happy to help you becoming a good musician!
