I'm a singer-songwriter from the UK and recently moved to Brussels! I have over 15 years of performance experience both in choirs and with my own artist project, including performances on BBC Radio 4 and at Glastonbury Festival. I was classically trained which helped me to develop my technique and an innate understanding of singing. I love to help singers of all genres from musical theatre to soul, pop and a bit of jazz! Equally, I work with students of all abilities, whether you're looking to try singing, you'd like to work on your technique, practice for an audition, or simply gain the confidence to perform, then I can help! Additionally with 9 years of songwriting experience and 8 singles released through my artist project, I offer 1-2-1 songwriting lessons for those looking to start out!

About Me

I'm a patient and compassionate teacher who really aims to build a great rapport with students and help bring out their confidence!
I was trained classically but can sing most genres from musical theatre, to soul, pop and a little bit of jazz!
I've been involved with multiple choirs including the CBSO youth choir, a gospel choir and an all-female a'cappella group at university!

My name is Matteo Schifanoia, I am a songwriter, pop and jazz singer, and vocal coach with 20 years of experience in music. I offer singing lessons for all levels. My lessons focus on developing body, muscle, and vocal awareness, which helps us perceive and consider our bodies as musical instruments.
My teaching method is the result of the synthesis of my experience as a singer and the many and diverse study paths followed. The lesson is structured in two parts: the first half devoted to vocal technique, the second half to the musical repertoire and learning the musical language (jazz or pop or other genre).

The vocal technique that I propose is a basic technique for all types of modern singing: from postural education to the care of breathing, from the use of abdominal muscles, to the emission of air to the resonance cavities. We will work on the sound, on the extension of the voice, on the high and low notes, on the passage of register, on the control, on the power and agility.
From a repertoire perspective, the lessons will be tailored to the student's needs and interests, with an emphasis on proper stage presence and posture. These courses are intended for singers of levels, beginners to intermediates who wish to improve their vocal skills, as well as for people wishing to better control their voice and gain confidence in situations such as public speaking.

The course is generally carried out in two parts:

A first part devoted to vocal development and technique centered on three essential points:
The agility, placement and connection of vocal registers.
After a complete warm-up based on bodily and vocal exercises, I offer you technical exercises adapted to your needs and your level. My role is to give you the keys and directions to achieve your goals as quickly and with maximum pleasure. This part of the work is essential and should in no way constitute an obstacle to learning, which is why I listen to your desires and feelings to best adapt the technical work and make it a real daily ritual.

A second part completely focused on interpretation. Let's not forget, the goal of this class is to sing! And the best key to progress and to sing what you like. If you play an instrument, I have guitars and pianos so that you can accompany yourself, otherwise, I would be happy to accompany you on the piano to sing the songs of your choice. We try to work on different songs to make learning as fun as possible!
