All lessons are one on one. We develop a long-term lesson plan. My lessons are for all levels, but only for enthusiastic students who want to work intensively. Pianist Koenraad has been playing since he was six years old. While classical music has always been a passion throughout his life, he also explores world music, jazz, improv, film scoring and electronic music. From a young age, he studied jazz rhythm and drums alongside piano. Mainly a soloist, he also enjoys working as a collaborative pianist in the Lied genre and is an enthusiastic chamber music player. Performs in world music and improvisation festivals as well as an orchestral pianist and répétiteur. He is currently preparing for further study in the field of film and game scoring.
His biggest music love is that of the work of Scriabin, a composer he feels “carries it all”.

About Me

I have had lessons for more than 20 years, in classical, jazz, singing, composition, piano and drums. Besides, I'm still taking lessons. It is extremely important to discuss your work and progress with someone, and to learn to see other perspectives.

Klára Würtz, my main subject teacher at the conservatory, taught me that education can be equally educational for both the student and the teacher. That has proven to be one of the greatest truths for me and I teach based on this philosophy. A musical education should be as complete as possible. This not only means learning notes and technique, but also learning harmony, improvisation and form. This way you learn how to play music by heart, how to listen harmonically, and how to sing a second voice, for example.

Hello! My name is Aurel and I am a French Amsterdam-based drummer.

Although currently specialized in Jazz music, I have studied various esthetics, and Pop and Rock music, in particular, are part of my background (I played in several pop-rock bands). Therefore I am able to teach a broad panel of music styles. I also have many drum methods and charts at my disposal, and have experience in teaching children from the age of 6, as well as teenagers and adults.

Lessons and teaching method:
I always adapt to the student's tastes and learning profiles. This is why, during the first lesson, and on a regular basis afterwards, I always take time to discuss with my students (or their parents if they are very young) to figure out together the path they want or need to follow. I will use charts and methods for those who need visual support to assimilate the skills or teach by ear and by demonstrating to the ones who feel more comfortable this way. I also play electric guitar and can jam with my students, which is a great tool for developing band playing skills or simply to have a good time.

For those eager to make significant progress, I offer consistent and serious monitoring, with practice recommendations. I can for instance prepare a student for an audition or an entrance exam in a conservatory. If you are willing to improve your understanding of rhythm in general, you can also benefit from my knowledge of Indian Karnatic rhythm concepts, one of the most complete traditional approaches to rhythm.

About me:
In addition to my jazz drums bachelor and master degrees from the conservatory of Amsterdam (CvA), which included a thorough pedagogical training and a specialization in Indian Karnatic techniques, I benefit from 4 years of experience as an employed drum teacher in two French associative music schools (Ecole de musique de Nangis and Conservatoire des Deux Rives, Moret-sur-Loing).

I am also an active musician, both on the Dutch and the French scene. My trio mainly tours in France and has played at venues such as the Sunside (Paris), or participated in competitions like the Keep An Eye International Jazz Award. I am also the co-leader of the sextet Chai Masters, finalist of several European competitions (Leiden Jazz Award, Golden Jazz Trophy in Lille, France, 7 Virtual Jazz Contest). Recently, the band was part of Keep An Eye The Records's finalists (March 2022). Its first album "Magic Realism" received critical acclaim in France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.

My teaching method developed during 20 years of experience and thanks to my studies of Music Pedagogy and Piano Teaching during my Master's in Piano at Livorno's Conservatory.
I am currently a piano teacher in a British School and I prepared several students for ABRSM and Trinity College exams.
As a private piano teacher, I work preferably in my studio, on a beautiful grand piano Yamaha, but, if not too far, I am also available for lessons at the student's house.

My teaching is adapted to the skills and goals of each student. With beginning children, I aim at full musical development of the student (not just playing notes, but feeling the rhythm, singing, and expressing emotions through free improvisation); technically I don't work only at the finger position, but at the organic interaction arm-wrist-fingers, through simple exercises.
With adult or advanced students, I observe them, to suggest which type of repertory to work together, and which aspects of the technique might still need improvement.
I teach classically, through the learning of notes, harmony, and written music, but I teach also how to play songs with only chord symbols, and blues improvisation at a basic level.

Both with children and adults I aim at creating a joyful experience during the lesson, in which focus is gained in a playful way, finding each time the best practicing solutions to technical and musical difficulties. In this way, practicing at home becomes not another heavy duty to add to an already busy schedule, but repeating a creative, searching experience, that is never the same.

Books: the use of a method is often suggested in the first years. Later I advice classical pieces to be studied. Also, Pop or Rock songs that the student would like to perform are well accepted, if I think the student can play them.
