My name is Polly and I am a professional opera singer. I am currently performing as a Young Artist with Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam as part of their brand new Studio Programme. Alongside performing, I have a passion for teaching classical singing to students of all ages and abilities. As a newcomer to Amsterdam, I am looking to build my teaching studio and to share my love of singing!

Whether you sing purely for your own enjoyment, are preparing for a big audition or performance, or simply just want to know more about how the human voice works, I am here to help!

I previously trained at the Royal College of Music (MPerf, Distinction) and the National Opera Studio in London, as well as working for opera companies including Opera Holland Park, Royal Opera House, Pop-Up Opera, Charles Court Opera, and British Youth Opera. I also achieved ABRSM Grade 8 Piano and Voice (both Distinction), so I am able to provide piano accompaniment in lessons. Prior to my Masters training at the RCM, I studied Molecular Biology and Biochemistry (BSc Hons) at Durham University, which included modules in Animal Physiology. I am therefore fascinated by and have a deep understanding of how the human voice functions.

I teach using the SATS model devised by my teacher Janice Chapman, which uses evidence-based science to teach the fundamentals of classical singing. So, no matter what stage you are in your vocal training, I will be able to help to build and strengthen your vocal technique and help you towards vocal freedom and experience true joy in your singing!

Languages I sing in include English, Italian, German, French, and, to a lesser extent, Czech and Russian. I have received the input of many world-class language coaches over the years, so I am happy to coach you through the sounds and meaning of texts in these languages.
Extra information
As a professional performer, I will have a varied schedule each week. As a result, we may need to organise lessons on a week-by-week basis to allow for potential evening rehearsals/performances. There may be some weeks when I have very limited availability, so flexibility is a must!

I will ask students to sign a 24-hour cancellation policy - if you cancel a lesson with less than 24 hours notice, then the cost of the lesson must be paid in full.

Irene
Drs. Irene (BBA, BMA) has more than 20 years of experience as a vocal coach, teaching students in over 12 countries, and has become a well-known name among professional singers and actors around the world — from the Netherlands to the United States. Her extensive knowledge of the voice and musical performance, combined with her exceptional teaching skills, are among the qualities that define her work.

Irene studied classical and contemporary voice at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and the Conservatory of Haarlem, as well as in the United States with Joan Lader (Broadway musical theatre) and Stephen Schwarz (Metropolitan Opera), and in Italy at the Accademia di Belcanto with Astrea Amaduzzi. Irene’s expertise encompasses a wide range of vocal techniques, including bel canto, verismo, belting and pop curbing, and is grounded in scientific research ranging from the teachings of the great classical vocal pedagogues to the most contemporary insights into voice use and vocal function.

Breath support and tone production form the essential foundation of powerful, healthy and technically sound singing, but many other aspects are equally important. Hundreds of videos, interviews with voice specialists, quizzes, challenges and workbooks together provide a comprehensive vocal education for singers of all styles through her online Bellucci Conservatory.

Add to this her humour, enthusiasm and ability to accompany virtually any repertoire at sight on the grand piano, without prior knowledge of the song or piece, and a singing lesson with Irene becomes not only highly educational, but also an enjoyable and inspiring experience.

Sabine
Hello, my name is Sabine! I'm a soprano, actor, and singing teacher educated in multiple styles. I hold a degree in Vocal Performance (Classical + Pop/rock) & Musicology, and finished my studies at Fontys AMPA (Opera). I have also trained as an actor (film & theatre) at the Mulholland Academy in Amsterdam.

My lessons are entirely tailored to your personal wishes. We begin with a discussion about what you'd like to learn, and we work toward your own ideal voice and sound. We can choose classical, operatic, popular, or musical repertoire - or other styles that interest you. The focus is always on healthy, sustainable technique. You can also choose to work on different elements: we can focus only on singing technique, but also on performance or dramatic skills, song interpretation, audition preparation, your speaking voice, stage fright..all questions are welcome!

Reasons to try out a lesson
-You've always been curious about singing, but don't know where to start
-You already sing for fun, but you want to take your voice to the next level
-You want to prepare an audition (for conservatory, a role in a production, singing competition, choir, open mic..)
-You suffer from stage fright or lack of confidence
-You want to work on your theatrical skills
-You're an actor who wants to improve their vocal technique
-You want to strengthen your speaking voice
-You're in a choir and want to improve your voice
-You want to be able to sing convincingly in the English language (as a native speaker, I also offer English language and diction coaching for singing)
-any other reason!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions. All ages and experience levels are welcome :)
