Music Theory establishes the basics of reading standard music notation and analysis, providing students the tools to understand music at a rudimentary level, then continues to expand upon new musical concepts by progressing historically through the eras of Western Classical music. This includes developing aural and visual identification skills—such as ear training, rhythmic exercises, and dictation.

I teach beginner and intermediate music theory and piano. In my lessons, we will cover rhythm, reading, intonation, and ear training. For piano, I always carefully choose fun and engaging pieces that help students play with both hands while developing a solid understanding of the sheet music in front of them. .

Music Theory may seem difficult to understand at first. It's an entirely new language that is first processed in your mind and brought out-- not only through your voice, but from the top of your head to the tips of your toes! It is my job to help you familiarize yourself with that language, its nuances, and importance to all music.

In this course, we combine vocal technique with learning music theory in an accessible and friendly way. You'll learn to use your voice confidently, improve your pitch, and learn the basics of musical language (note reading, rhythm, intonation, and auditory recognition).

As an accomplished musician with proficiency in keyboard, guitar, and flute, I bring a unique blend of skills and experience to my role as a keyboard teacher. My journey in music began over a decade ago, during which I have honed my craft through dedicated practice, performance, and continuous learning. Having obtained a certification in keyboard, I possess a solid foundation in both theoretical knowledge and practical techniques essential for teaching this instrument effectively. My musical journey has not only equipped me with technical expertise but also instilled in me a deep passion for sharing the joy of music with others. In my teaching approach, I prioritize a holistic understanding of music, encompassing fundamental concepts of theory, technique, interpretation, and expression. I believe in tailoring my lessons to each student’s unique learning style, goals, and musical interests, ensuring a personalized and enriching experience for every individual. I focus on an individual approach to the student and I prefer to show what is good than just criticize. I ask for expectations and I adapting to it. I have pedagogical and psychological preparation. These lessons are for young and/or inexperienced singers. My lesson plans are tailored towards students' individual goals. For some, this may be learning and embodying an audition song for their school's upcoming theater performance, and for others voice lessons are a first step towards singing healthily in their church choir. In any case, I focus on correcting and building core skills necessary to singing one's best while encouraging and fostering creativity, accountability, and motivation. If considered for a long-term journey towards singing, I will focus particularly on classical techniques to build steady breath control, good posture, and proper vowel and consonant formation. Along with providing repertoire, if the student is ready and wants, there will be opportunities for vocal performance in the Santa Cruz area. I will encourage audio recordings in all lessons to help with future preparations. I will be assigning some homework after every lesson, likely a combination of vocalization exercises, dedicated sheet music practice, and theory homework (if needed). *My first lesson will involve getting to know the student, their goals, and some vocalization to assess vocal level. For singers with minimal/no prior foundational music theory knowledge, I may recommend time from lessons (15-30 minutes) being allocated solely towards foundational music theory learning.

I have been producing music for about 2 years now. This class is very beginner friendly for anyone who wants to learn how to produce and create their own music. Students will learn very basic and fundamental music theory that anyone can learn.
