If a backlog has arisen, we first start by eliminating this backlog. I do this in addition to covering the material, which is covered in class. In my career I have helped students who had developed a real fear of mathematics. They successfully passed with high marks. I believe that anyone can learn anything if you have the time and attention for it. A student learns easily if he/she likes something. I'm sure someone will like math after my explanation.
