I offer classes tailored to each individual, depending on their goals and the desired musical aesthetic. As I always say, the important thing is to have fun with the instrument and pass it on to the listener. Having first learned different types of contemporary music such as blues and rock, I specialized in traditional flamenco, with its different styles (palos), its rhythms (compás), its very particular techniques that bring out this very characteristic guitar sound. With 5 years of experience as a teacher, I adapt my lessons to each student for optimal learning. During the first class, we define the areas of work and the methodology to be implemented to achieve your objectives and fully develop your potential. The course is designed for students from beginner to advanced level, and allows you to approach all the essential elements of playing the instrument in a fun way. For flamenco: - the rhythm (with the different types of compasses relating to each palo) - the characteristic techniques of flamenco guitar and their application through falsetas or exercises (rasgueos, arpeggios, thumb technique, tremolo, ligado, picado, ...) - the harmony of the different flamenco hats - the accompaniment of the song with its keys and codes - courses intended to accompany dance For blues and rock: - the rhythm and specific cadences - pick techniques - bending, hammer/pull-off effects, etc. - improvisation/composition of solos With my help, you will gain a deeper understanding of technique, rhythm, music theory, and most importantly, a deeper understanding of the instrument itself! All of these elements will allow you to feel freer when studying a piece or composing your own music.

Hello! I am Joan, a professional classical guitarist newly based in Vienna. I am from Barcelona, obtained a First Class Bachelor's degree in Music and a Master's degree in Performance at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, and I have now landed in Vienna, where I do a Postgraduate Certificate at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw) with Prof. Alvaro Pierri. I am also an active performer, with more than 30 concerts a year across Europe, the USA and the UK. Besides performing, I have been teaching for more than 10 years now. Last year as a Junior Fellow at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, but also privately, in music schools, conservatoires, primary and secondary schools and summer camps. Mainly 1 to 1 but very often ensembles, chamber music or orchestras. I have always considered guiding people into learning music a central part of my passion and profession, and always put special attention to Pedagogy. I was lucky to have lessons with some of the world's best professionals like A. Pierri, D. Russell, R. Dyens, M. Barrueco, L. Brouwer, A. Vidovic... I am now looking forward to connecting with new students here in Vienna or online! I always try to explore what is the best way for each particular student to develop, so our lessons could take many different approaches. I am happy to hear what you expect from the lessons, adapt to it, and at the same time offer my professional guidance. One of my principles is to be effective in all possible ways when playing. Above all, I will make sure you learn! Whether you are already playing masterpieces and are interested in new approaches, have been playing for some time, or still haven't started playing, I'd be glad to help you. Joan

Hi, I’m Mateus – Guitarist, Composer & Teacher I’m a professional jazz guitarist from Portugal with a strong background in both classical and jazz music. Over the years, I’ve performed at some of Portugal’s biggest jazz festivals such as EDP Cool Jazz, Funchal Jazz Festival, and Caldas da Rainha Jazz Festival, and I’ve also had the honor of winning international prizes, including the Jarek Śmietana Jazz Guitar Competition in Poland. Alongside performing, I have a real passion for teaching guitar. I’ve been giving private lessons, workshops, and masterclasses to students of all levels, helping them build solid technique, develop their creativity, and express themselves through music. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to dive deeper into improvisation, jazz harmony, composition, or repertoire, I adapt my lessons to your goals and pace. Currently, I’m based in Basel, Switzerland, where I’m studying for my Master’s degree in jazz performance at Jazzcampus, working with world-class musicians like Larry Grenadier, Jorge Rossy, Kris Davis, and Wolfgang Muthspiel. Beyond music, I enjoy reading, traveling, and exploring new cultures – things that often inspire my playing and teaching. If you’d like to learn guitar in a way that’s fun, personalized, and musically enriching, I’d be happy to help you on your journey! I have been teaching guitar for several years, working with students of all ages and levels – from complete beginners to advanced musicians preparing for auditions and performances. My teaching experience includes private lessons, workshops, and masterclasses, both in Portugal and abroad. My academic background combines a classical foundation with a strong focus on jazz performance and improvisation. I studied classical guitar at the Conservatory of Santa Comba Dão, later graduating from the Coimbra Conservatory of Music in the professional jazz program, and completing a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Guitar at the Lisbon College of Music. As a teacher, I adapt my lessons to each student’s goals. My methodology combines: Building a solid technical foundation (right- and left-hand coordination, tone, articulation). Developing rhythm, harmony, and improvisation skills through practical exercises. Learning songs and repertoire that connect directly with the student’s interests (jazz, pop, rock, bossa nova, or classical). Encouraging creativity and self-expression, so students not only play but also find their own musical voice. Integrating ear training and theory in a clear and practical way, always linked to the guitar. I believe that music should be both enjoyable and challenging, and I strive to create a positive environment where students feel inspired to practice, explore, and grow as musicians. Why Learn Guitar with Me? Learning guitar is not just about playing notes – it’s about discovering your own voice, building confidence, and enjoying the process of making music. With me, you’ll get personalized lessons tailored to your goals, whether you want to play your favorite songs, dive into jazz improvisation, strengthen your technique, or prepare for music school auditions. What makes studying with me different is the combination of professional stage experience – performing at international jazz festivals and competitions – and a dedication to teaching that puts the student first. I’ll help you develop the skills you need while keeping lessons fun, creative, and motivating.
