If you are serious about writing, it needs to be worked on in conversation with others, as well as on your own. You may have written for a long time, or just be taking a first step to find a safe environment to share your work with someone else. Writing can be such an enriching practice (which may even transform your life), but this doesn't mean it is easy or fulfilling all the way. There are bumps and blocks and tensions... one great way through them is to start to build a community... a good place to start can be to find someone to guide the process of writing and finding ways to support your creativity. I can also signpost to places to go and can guide you to group opportunities and communities, whatever your means. I am a published poet and fiction writer and have worked as a writing tutor for 5 years. I have an MA in Creative Writing and am studying towards a PhD. I work as a writing mentor for poets and writers from many different backgrounds.

My teaching method varies from student to student - no single method of learning fits everybody, thus I aim to be as adaptable and personalised as possible in my lessons. What I do prioritise is a friendly atmosphere, an environment for serious questions and thinking, and constantly developing a student's knowledge and understanding. Poetry is as much a tool of personal expression as it is a creative discipline. While the importance of learning about style, stanzas, and sibilance is undeniably important, so is discovering your own authorial voice. These sessions are designed to support you in discovering what makes your poetry 'yours'. Together we will look at examples of other's poems to dissect how the authors use various techniques and linguistic devices to construct poems before looking at how to apply those devices in ways that help us achieve our desired outcomes. We will also break down what poetry means to us individually, recap different types of and form within poetry, complete writing sprints, and more. You will also have the opportunity to 'workshop' examples of your work with me, if desired. I first had poetry published in 2016, and have been featured in several magazines and journals in the past few years - throughout 2020/21 I was featured in a number of publications including the prestigious Train River Publishing Quarterly, Creatures Magazine, Felan Zine, Fresh Froot mag, and more. I’m Craig, a theatre director and dramaturg who has worked with some of the UK’s leading theatre companies.
