Double Bass, Electric Bass, and Band Coach lessons. All ages and levels! KontrabasTranslate this text using Google Translate.

Hello! My name is Bjørk and I’m a professional double bass player living and teaching here in Amsterdam. I have 2 diplomas in Jazz Bass from Sweden and a degree in Jazz Bass Performance from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I love teaching and I have taught since 2016. And I love the bass! I teach double bass, electric bass, composition, improvisation, band coaching/ensemble lessons and music theory. I have experience teaching complete beginners with zero prior musical knowledge to more advanced players, and in all age ranges: from 5 year olds to 74 year olds. Every student is different and I always customize and adapt my lessons to your needs and your goals. And don’t worry if you’re not sure what those are yet, we can figure it out together! As I see it, music and learning should be most of all: fun! Of course it’s at times challenging, but we will focus on what you feel passionate about and see what works best for you. It's very important to me to get to know my students well, to be able to customize the lessons for you specifically. I engage as much as I can with each of my students and always prepare every week for our lessons so that you can get a good lesson whether you've practiced a lot this week or haven't had much time. We can always find something to do. It's my job to guide you and find out which kind of workflow works well for you. Even though I specialize in jazz, I have played many genres and we can do anything you want. Pop, rock, punk, indie, world-music/folk, funk, classical, or anything else that you are interested in. I also teach band coaching if you have a band that you want to play with.

Hi, I'm Philip! I'm a professional Bass player and teacher based in Amsterdam. I have studied with some of the best teachers in Europe as well as famous bassists from the New York Jazz Scene. Besides my studies I have been actively performing, recording and teaching since age 16, which led me to play at different festivals and venues such as North Sea Jazz, JazzOpen Stuttgart, Bimhuis, DeDoelen Rotterdam. I'm calm and easy going and I want to pass on the knowledge I got from my teachers as well as my own experience. I always focus on getting you ready or better at playing in a band, since that's what we do as bass players! I'm experienced in and open to a wide variety of styles, my specialization being Jazz. ..................................................................................................................... Electric Bass/ Bass Guitar - Double Bass - Music Theory - Rhythm - Groove - Ear Training - Sight Reading - Audition Preparation - Home Recording - Gear ---> Jazz, Pop, Rock, Soul, Funk, Hip-Hop.... ---> I adapt my teaching to your level (complete beginner to advanced) as well as your goals or your style preferences. If you're playing in a band and would like feedback we can set up a Bandcoaching, too.

First of all, congratulations on getting this far: finding the right teacher is not easy, but the hardest part is behind you. My method is innovative and differs from the classic French system (obsolete and archaic): The student learns to become independent and autonomous by integrating technical principles applicable to different scenarios, somewhat according to the philosophy of Asian martial arts (but rest assured, nothing martial here, everything is done flexibly). My lessons are fun, and are aimed at beginners as well as experienced ones. The first step consists of first validating a few quick theoretical and technical bases. This is a crucial step to progress quickly and efficiently: what is a grade? A deal ? An arpeggio? A range ? How to hold a pick? In what position to play? Once the basics have been acquired, the student can learn pieces of their choice or work on particular playing techniques (picking, alternate picking, tapping, etc.) always in accordance with their needs, and above all their desires! Obviously the content is adapted to each person, the same goes for the style: Rock, Blues, Pop, Variety, Reggae, Metal... the possibilities are endless. For those who wish to risk it, the theme of improvisation is also on the program: Contrary to popular belief, this discipline is not reserved for the elite or the experienced, everyone is capable of it with a little training and an appropriate method. Music is an artistic field, everyone can see a future in it as long as the motivation is there!

Professional Bass Player With More Than 20 Years of Experience Offers Bass LessonsTranslate this text using Google Translate.

My teaching centers on giving students a clear sense of direction, not just isolated tips. In our first lesson, I like to lay out a loose roadmap of where we're headed over the next few months, so progress feels concrete and intentional rather than vague. From there, I adapt closely to each student's actual goals — whether that's developing groove and time feel, expanding jazz vocabulary and harmonic understanding, or applying music theory directly on the neck. Because my own background spans classical composition, jazz performance, and Ableton production, I teach bass and music production as genuinely connected skills. For bass students, this often means building technique and vocabulary while also understanding the harmonic role the bass plays in a piece — inversions, voice leading, and how a bassline shapes the music around it, not just what notes to play. For production students, I bring the same structured approach to Ableton workflow, arrangement, and sound design, always grounding technical tools in the musical decisions they're meant to serve. Above all, I aim to meet students where they are and give them a clear, achievable sense of what mastery looks like at each stage, so that every lesson builds visibly toward something larger.

My lessons will give you the tools to play by ear, enabling you to join in effortlessly and confidently without relying on chord charts. Whether you’re picking up the guitar for the first time or refining your technique, I offer a flexible and personalised approach to help you achieve your musical goals.

She creates a very pleasant and comfortable atmosphere which puts one immediately at ease. She took the time to understand my goals and adapted the lessons towards the goal. Bjørk also has a knack for spotting where the student's difficulties lie and helping break the problem down into manageable steps to eventually get past these challenges. She's also quite enthusiastic about music and teaching and imparts that positive energy to those around her.

Pietro is an excellent professional Bass Guitar teacher with extensive theory and practical musical knowledge. He makes you feel comfortable and confident in his company. I feel any questions you may have to do with music theory or practical he can answer, demonstrate and teach you. For those students who speak English, his spoken, knowledge and understanding of the the English language is excellent.

As someone with very little theoretical background, I find that Jean does his best to explain things in a simple and clear matter. He is patient and calm, will adapt the lessons to your level and needs, accompany the lessons with exercises and material that you can use to practice at home, .. Overall a very good experience so far.
