Hello! My name is Emily and I’m a professional singer and a passionate and experienced singing and piano teacher with 15 years of teaching experience to students of all ages and abilities. As a teacher, my main goal is to make your lessons fun, rewarding and enjoyable (as music making should be!) whilst supporting and encouraging you every step of the way in your development. I am dedicated to ensuring that online music lessons are as effective and engaging as in-person lessons; please don’t hesitate to get in touch to discuss options further! In your singing lessons, we will work on building your technique and musicality, your repertoire in multiple genres as well as your confidence as a performer. I teach a solid classical based technique which can then be applied to multiple genres of music. As an accomplished pianist I will accompany you at the piano as you sing your chosen songs. (For online lessons I will find suitable backing tracks.) In your piano lessons, for beginners - I will determine the appropriate starting materials based on your age, innate ability, and level of understanding. For those who have already been learning and are looking to resume their studies, I will facilitate a seamless and supportive transition. I will work closely with you to gain a thorough understanding of your needs and ensure the most effective path forward. If you are interested in having both singing and piano lessons, you can have an hour lesson comprising of half singing and half piano. I have over 10 years of experience in preparing students for exam grades, and work with the ABRSM syllabus and the Trinity syllabus. My students have a 100% pass rate, with the majority achieving a Merit or Distinction. I look forward to hearing from you and making music with you!

She particularly loves working with enthusiastic young musicians, as children at the beginning of their singing journey or as young adults looking towards further study or a professional career. She also has much success in working with adult singers looking to improve their vocal and musical skills to sing for pleasure. She is very interested in new developments in vocal research and teaching, and regularly attends events with associations such as the Association of Teachers of Singing and the British Voice Association to keep up to date with these. Polly is a highly skilled and adaptable performer, teacher and workshop leader with 20 years of professional experience. She has worked as a professional singer for over twenty years, regularly performing with groups including the BBC Singers, Monteverdi Choir and Gabrieli Consort and for a wide variety of conductors from Simon Rattle to Paul McCartney. She has toured in UK, Europe and USA, performing in venues including Carnegie Hall, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Opera Comique in Paris. She frequently works in the recording studio, often recording soundtracks for TV and film including Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean.
