About Me
Julia is an Andalusian cellist based in Zwolle, the Netherlands, currently completing her master's degree at ArtEZ University of the Arts.

Her first contact with music came through the knowledge of her father, who is also a musician and encouraged her to take piano and singing lessons at the age of five.

When she was admitted to the public conservatory in her hometown of El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz, Spain) at the age of eight, she was given the opportunity to choose an instrument of her choice. It was then that she felt a strong connection with the cello — a bond that has remained unbroken and ever stronger to this day.

After four years she continued her studies at the Manuel de Falla Conservatory in Cádiz, under the guidance of Álvaro Serrano Calleja, who motivated her to continue her university studies (bachelor's degree) at the Manuel Castillo Conservatory in Seville (CSM), with teacher Israel Fausto Martínez-Melero, a cellist and professor who was a leading student of the world-famous cellist Janos Starker.

During her four-year bachelor's degree, she met Karlien Bartels, her current teacher at ArtEZ, with whom she also studied in her third bachelor year thanks to an Erasmus grant. She wanted to extend this experience, so she returned to ArtEZ for a contract year and then for the master's degree she is now completing.

Julia continues to work on developing her musical and technical skills, but is also looking forward to finding her way in the professional music world, in which she has already gained some experience.

She is currently working on her research project and final exam, in which she investigates different timbres and cultures, taking Latin American music as a starting point and in relation to other art forms.

She is a cellist in the Melifluo Trio, an ensemble of violin, cello and piano that has been active for the past three years.

If you want to learn how to play the piano or to improve your skills in a successful, creative and motivational way this is your place!
My aim is to guide you and help you to achieve your goals, the same way I have helped a lot of students or beginners before. No matter if you want to start now, if you already know a bit about music or if you already study music and you want to improve your piano skills even more. We will focus on learning in the most efficient way at the same time we enjoy.

My main characteristic is that I can adapt to your needs. I can always adjust my method to your personality or wishes so that you can learn and enjoy as much as possible. Also, the duration of the lesson will be adapted to you and we will combine more practical or theoretical content depending on what you want or need to learn. There is also the possibility to have both individual and group lessons.

In the lessons, we can speak in English, Dutch or in Spanish.

ABOUT ME:
My name is Ana and I am a 25-year-old pianist, graduated from her master's degree in ArtEZ University of the Arts in Zwolle. I come from Spain, but I live and work in The Netherlands. I studied for my piano bachelor's in Spain and finish with the highest marks. Also, I have experience as a performer and I have won some prizes in national and international competitions.
Apart from my piano career, I also have a lot of pedagogical training and experience teaching, both individual and group lessons. I can teach people of all ages and all levels.

If you are interested in learning and enjoying music and piano, don't hesitate and contact me!

As a professional classical violinist, I offer violin lessons to both children and adults in the Zwolle area. I have a master's degree from the Rotterdam Conservatory and have more than 10 years of teaching experience.

Please feel free to contact me for more information or to make an appointment for a trial lesson.

TRIAL LESSON

In order to know whether a student is eligible (physically, musically and mentally) for violin lessons, an appointment will always be made for a trial lesson first. During the trial lesson I will get to know the student, I will perform a number of tests (motor and musical), I will check the violin for quality, size (if it concerns children) and completeness, and if the previous matters are in order, I will then give a trial lesson. I will also answer any questions you may have about the lesson conditions.

LESSONS PLANNING

Although the lesson time is in principle always agreed upon each time, it is preferable that the lesson is held on the same day and time every week. If it concerns a novice student, this is even essential. The reason is that a lot is involved in establishing a good basic violin technique and a good basic technique is essential to continue to progress in the long term. In this phase, a teacher must be able to intervene in a timely manner if things go off the rails. Because a basic learned incorrectly is very difficult to unlearn. The regularity of the lessons is important to provide the student with sufficient time to process what has been learned. Only for the more advanced student, lessons can also be given every other week.

CLASS LOCATION

The lessons take place at my home in Heino or at the student's home.

CLASS DURATION

A lesson lasts 60 minutes.

READING NOTES

Whether or not you can read music is still unimportant in the initial phase. In fact, the first lessons will not cover notes at all. This is because it is very important to learn to make music with the ears and from empathy. Of course, being able to read music from a certain level is indispensable, but if you start doing that right away, the emphasis is too much on the visual and that is not good. After all, the notes emerged from the music, and not the other way around.

TEACHING MATERIALS

As long as the level is such that notes do not play a role, the student's memory and the notebook will be the only teaching material. When the student is ready for notation, he or she will switch to simple textbook methods in which both reading notes and melodies are literally taught through play. As the level progresses, the material will become increasingly difficult and the books will be adjusted accordingly. We will soon move on to duets in which the student plays together with the teacher. This is not only fun to do, but also forces the student to listen extra carefully / use their ears. Just like the violin, the teaching materials must be purchased yourself, although photocopies may also suffice in the initial phase.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
