My name is Benjamin and I am 16 years old. I give guitar lessons and I really enjoy teaching people to play the guitar. I give you as a student the opportunity to choose songs yourself, but of course I also like to inspire my students. I enjoy learning everything from fingerstyle to hard rock. About Me

Hi,

My name is Benjamin (18 years old) and I come from Uitgeest. I live in central Uitgeest. I have been teaching for a while now and I consider this one of my biggest hobbies! I have been playing guitar for a few years now and I like many different genres and tastes (for example Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones). And I also really enjoy learning new tastes from my students. Nevertheless, I really appreciate it when students dare to step out of their musical comfort zone and learn other genres. I am a cultural person and also like art, music and politics. I describe myself as calm, curious, enthusiastic, sporty and musical. I am really a people person and I like company and positivity! I keep my lessons quite simple. We have a short chat, but of course we try to use all the lesson time as well as possible. We determine whether it is a request from me or from you and then we go over the playing style, rhythm and learning process. Then of course we practice! I will pay close attention to what can be improved, how you can best practice the material and do my best to convey the music as well as possible. As a student you of course decide for yourself how long you want to spend on a song, riff or lick, so that there is no stress. I would personally appreciate a fixed lesson schedule, since I am not always available. You can always contact me via the site. There are no wrong questions, so if you are struggling with something, please contact me. I will be happy to answer them :) I would like to teach you to play the guitar as a student in the future!

Education

I am currently studying sociology at the Vrije Universiteit. I speak good English, so if you have trouble with Dutch, we can also do the lessons in English. And even if you do not have a guitar available yet, we can make arrangements for that.

I often play with friends, so I am already well experienced with teamwork. I've been playing guitar for 3 years now. I have been taking lessons for 1 year myself and I also like to be inspired by my own teacher. That is how that music sometimes ends up with my own students.

Bass guitar lessons with a holistic, "all-round" character.

We will practice the lessons together and we will use your best songs for this. I believe that if you have deep emotional contact with a piece of music, the learning process will also become faster, cozier and smoother!

Our main themes:

- technique and overview of the bass (where?)
- general music theory, ear training (why?)
- creative improvisation and composition (what?)
- rhythm, tempo, phrasing and feeling (how?)

For adults and teenagers, lessons last 1 hour. For all levels from absolute beginner to conservatory level.

Either working on the fundamentals of bass or guitar, left/right hand techniques, a specific song or even developing a more advanced playing, I always strive to bring insight and enjoyment over our music practice, I believe this is essential to connect with our creativity in a practical way, and massively improve our playing.

I am 21 years old and I am currently a flute student at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I finished my studies in conservatories in France and obtained a license in music and musicology at the Sorbonne (Paris IV).
I offer personalized lessons meeting the desires and ambitions of everyone, from the simple beginner to the confirmed musician.
For the flute lessons, I offer exercises for sound, technique, adapted pieces. During music theory lessons, I can give tips for learning to read keys, rhythms, and offer dictations. The drumset is one of the most important and powerful instruments in a music ensemble. It does not only provide the rhythm and groove foundation for all the other instruments - it also defines the sound of the band, the character of the songs, the volume... just like an orchestra conductor.

In these lessons (which are of course personalized and open depending on the interests of the student) we will work beyond the physical/mechanical aspect of the drums (technique, coordination, etc) into the musical aspect, so we will spend some time listening and analyzing music together, working on ear training and music theory from a practical point of view.

If you’re interested in learning the flute and/ or gaining a new understanding of music through harmony, this lesson will provide that for you.

If you choose to, we’ll cover technique, improvisation, reading music, tone control and expression. We’ll also go over the fundamentals of harmony to give you the tools that will help with any other instrument. Your listening skills will also be developed. All entirely up to you, of course, we’ll only go as far as you wish.

Well... I'm not offering you the rock 'n' roll lifestyle, sprinkled with angel dust and full of groupies languidly waiting for you backstage, but I can at least offer you an organized guitar lesson based on a comprehensive approach to the instrument, targeted to your musical aspirations... In other words: what YOU like! I sincerely believe that the most effective way to learn music is to delve into what you love and explore it with passion and dedication. We will always start from the songs you like, step by step, following your workflow. My goal is simply to give you the best tips and tricks so that you can enjoy playing the songs you love or, if you wish, organize your guitar practice in the most efficient way.

Sign up for a band playing lesson as an individual instrumentalist, and you will be paired with other like-minded musicians to form a band. I will pair musicians of similar levels and who share similar musical interests together.
We will meet once or regularly based on the students availability, and will go over the basics of what it means to play in a group, put a repertoire of music together, and take your musicianship to the next level. Too often when learning an instrument, we fail to do what is ultimately the end goal of these long hours spent practicing : making music with others. This is also a great opportunity to meet fellow musicians and share your passion with others.

PS : at least one to two years of experience on your instrument is recommended to sign up for band playing lessons.

About the lessons

Have you always dreamed of developing your musical talents? Are you an amateur singer or a beginner who would like to learn a few basics to better understand and control your voice? Then you've come to the right place! :)
As an option, I can also give introductory music theory lessons, to help you get to grips with the difficulties of musical language.
This course is aimed at all those who are just starting out or who want to perfect their singing skills, children or adults of all ages and backgrounds. /!\ Lessons will be given in English or French only, at my home in Amsterdam (Osdorp).

Course content

• Breathing exercises (to learn how to manage your breath and master good vocal support)
• Ear exercises (to develop in pitch accuracy and intonation)
• Vocalizing and voice exercises (adapted to the student's level) to warm up and develop a better voice technique
• Repertoire work on arias, songs or other musical pieces (classical or pop music, depending on the student's wishes) on which the student would like to progress
• (as a bonus, if needed) support or introduction to music theory

The musical goal and target level will be decided (under my guidance) on an individual basis in the beginning of our lessons, according to each student's wishes. The aim of this course is whatever suits you best: to improve your level in order to enter musical establishments, to progress in order to surpass yourself, or for the curiosity of discovering new things, or even just for the pleasure of making music!

Throughout the past 17 years I have played a wide variety of different guitar genres. From classical to jazz, and from pop to funk. Nowadays I mostly write and play my own music which is a mix of all those genres. My approach to learning and playing music has always been very much based on intuition and the emphasis is not as much on theory.

I would be happy to teach you how to use more intuition while playing and/or writing music. I also play piano and sing if you want to learn more about any of those! Lastly, I teach courses and workshops about creativity so if you want to explore your own creativity and get a better understanding of your own creative processes in relation to music then I can definitely help you out with that!
