Always wanted to learn piano? In Utrecht I enjoy teaching classical piano to beginners

From 55 C$ /h

Are you a beginner and would you like to learn to play the piano in a way that is both structured and inspiring? Then my lessons might be exactly what you are looking for. I teach piano the way I have always liked it best: with a clear basis, but especially with room for music that makes you happy.

My lessons are built around the teaching method Alfred's Basic Piano Library - an accessible and logical learning path for beginning pianists. At the same time, you will quickly choose a piece that you like. Something that may be a bit more difficult than your level, but that we will work towards together step by step. That makes practicing not only more fun, but also motivating: you hear something back that you recognize and that you live towards, instead of just theory and technical exercises.

Especially in the beginning, when playing the piano often takes more effort than it sounds good at first, it helps enormously to play music that you really have something with. And that is exactly the balance I seek in my lessons: a good structure with room for personal taste and playing pleasure.

Hi, I'm Heewon from South Korea. I'm a graduate of the HKU Conservatory's Jazz & Pop department, majoring in jazz piano, though alongside that, I've continued studying classical piano, as well as composition and arranging.

For over 6 years, I've taught students ranging from young children (6 to 7 years old) to adults in their 50s and beyond, covering genres from jazz and pop to classical and new age, along with music theory. I've also performed extensively in both South Korea and the Netherlands, at festivals, jazz bars, and government related events, playing not only jazz standards but my own arrangements and original compositions.

I believe music is something we simply can't live without today. It surrounds us everywhere we go, woven into daily life. That's exactly why piano makes such a wonderful hobby: it's approachable, deeply rewarding, and a great way to relieve stress. How amazing is it to be able to play the music that lives in your head?

My lessons are open to all skill levels and are held in English or basic Dutch. Before we begin, I always start with a consultation to understand what you want out of piano, your goals, interests, and preferred style, and build lessons and materials around that.

Tailor made lessons suited to your level and goals:
- For beginners, we'll cover basic piano technique, fundamental music theory, and sheet music reading.
- For intermediate and advanced students, lessons are shaped around your specific needs and wishes (for example improvisation, accompaniment, arranging, and more).

All learning materials and documents are prepared by me.

Hi! I am a classically trained pianist and am graduating from the Utrecht Conservatory this year. My passion for the piano started at a young age: I started taking lessons when I was seven, after convincing my parents to enroll me.

From the age of thirteen, I started assisting my teacher and was already teaching younger students, from children as young as 3 to teenagers. As a result, I have built up extensive experience in teaching various ages and levels.
