I teach at Yoyogi Uehara Music School. My violin lessons provide students affordable private lesson and customize the specific goals, needs and aspirations of each student of all age and experience.
Violin lessons can be offered in either English or Japanese.

For kids
Violins come in many sizes and it is important to use the correct size to produce pleasing sounds. Yoyogi Uehara Music School carries all sizes of violins.

At your first lesson, I will determine which size is the best using our instruments. We have violins for rent, or we will be happy to recommend where to buy your own violin.

Combining virtuosity and elegance, Reina is in high demand both as a classical violinist and in the popular music scenes in Japan.

I have more than 10 years of teaching experience from ages 2 to 60 and from beginners to advanced.

Education

Born in the U.S. Reina Nambu holds a Bachelor of Music from the Mannes School of Music.
She has acted as concert mistress of several youth orchestras, has performed in such venues as the Carnegie Hall and the Alice Tully Hall of the Lincoln Center, and has also participated in such music festivals as the Mozarteum International Summer Academy and the Bowdoin International Music Festival.
Her teachers include: Nobu Wakabayashi, Lewis Kaplan, Michelle Kim, and Hamao Fujiwara.

Experience / Qualifications

She debuted in her home country to wide acclaim, playing Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with the Osaka and Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestras, followed by the recent concerto performance with the Ensemble Kobe.
She is currently the promotion artist of Tokyo, taking her on concert tours throughout Japan.

I specialize in teaching the violin for every age, both children and adults. I am a professional violin player, with over 40 years of experience and I have been actively performing on Japan's elite music arena. The very unique element of my violin lessons is that unlike other music schools, you will learn how to play violin from a professional musician who is active in Tokyo’s music scene. I also offer students special insight into performance, such as how to interact with the public or how to convey emotion to your audience. I have 10 years of experience in teaching music both in Japan and my native country, Romania.

I offer four types of courses:
1) Introduction Program: My first notes for complete beginners (children or adults) where I teach violin fundamentals.

2) Basic Program for violin beginners and for intermediate violin players who wish to refresh their technical skills. Some of the techniques taught in this program are bow fundamentals, advanced bowing, vibrato, color, and tones, posture, etc.

3) Custom Program: for any type of student, especially when preparing for a music competition, a concert or whether you wish to improve a specific part of your violin technique.

4) Special Program: Gypsy Violin Sound for learning all the valuable insights of the Gypsy style that I acquired throughout his long career as a Django jazz musician. Both amateurs and professional violinists are more than welcomed to take this course. The repertoire will be adapted to your level.

I am very passionate about coaching the basic but quite important methodology/exercise for playing drums such as rudiments, kick drum exersize with METRONOME, which are the areas most of the beginner drummers tend to skip. even experienced drummer would not know how to apply those rudiments patterns to real drums play.

Taiko Drumming is both a traditional instrument and an innovative medium for making contemporary music.
I am Eva, a professional Taiko Drummer, and I have playing the Taiko drums for 30 years.

Lessons will be taught online on weekdays and on-site in central Tokyo on weekends, in groups. Private lessons can be arranged upon request.

Born in Tokyo, Japan, Eva was raised by a family of scholars and artists with mixed German and Japanese heritage. From a young age, she learned how to play piano after her father introduced her to classical music, while she simultaneously learned Taiko after her mother introduced her to the Japanese arts. After graduating from the International School of the Sacred Heart in Tokyo, Japan, she attended Cornell University in New York, USA, where she earned a B.A. in Philosophy. While attending Cornell, she joined the Cornell University Percussion Ensemble. The following year, she co-founded the Taiko drumming student organization called Cornell Taiko (YAMATAI) and she was the lead drummer and Musical Director. After graduating from Cornell at the young age of 22, she returned to Japan and started performing professionally. She started her solo career a year later.

Eva is also trained in Japanese folk dance (with a focus on male styles) and has a passion for street dance and locking. She joined an Awa dance team affiliated with the prestigious Koenji Awa Dance Association and made her way to become one of the top female dancers in Japan.

Today, she brings Japanese taiko drumming and song to a brand new context of pop music and also performs with many distinguished artists, musicians, dancers, and Taiko drummers across multiple genres. Eva does not only perform using taiko, she also uses a number of other instruments that have a distinct flavor of the Japanese environment including Koto (Japanese Harp), Voice, and Piano. Eva also works in the field of education and teaches taiko drumming workshops to both children and adults and is also involved in humanitarian efforts such as raising awareness for the disabled.

Her music, dynamic performances, and selfless spirit continue to inspire not only her many fans but all who witness her performances all over the world.

In 2023, her original music was published by Harper Collins Publisher and she was also the cover image of their music textbook. In 2024, her original music was utilized by Cambridge International Curriculum, used in over 160 countries and 10,000 schools, which sets a global standard for education, and is recognized by universities and employers worldwide.
