I will start you off with the development of Buddhism and Hinduism in India, and branch out towards the development of Confucianism in China. I will help you develop an understanding of Japanese Zen, and the relationship that Japan has had with its combination of religions. I've tutored many in the development of religions and philosophies, and it is important that both are intermingled within Asia. I help foster a safe environment to ask questions and become further enlightened within this subject.
Let us work together to unpack biases, and develop a better understanding of Asian Philosophy.
This is a Asian Philosophy 101 course so no prior knowledge is needed.

Over the course of my college career I was devoted to learning about how religion manifests within Asia. So many things seem to be philosophies rather than religions- is there a difference? Let us learn about it together!
I have taken over 10 religious studies courses of my own volition, and have tutored religious studies to several college students after gaining my degree. I can break Hinduism down- what is atman? Who are the gods? Are there several sects? Who was important to the movement of religious tolerance in India? How has this affected the development of the country? I can explain the spread of Buddhism as well as the messages behind it. I plan to explain the story of Siddhartha and how it caused a ripple effect. Taoism, Shintoism, Islam and folklore will be delved into. The growth of Christianity within Korea, and China may also be explored if the student finds interest in the topic. My main concern is to explain religions across Japan, Korea, China, and India, but that is not to say that the religions have not touched the entire world. This is through the lens of Asia, but it can be applied to understand religious growth within the U.S. as well.
No question is too small, let us conquer one of the hardest concepts together!

It is true that the philosopher is the friend of wisdom, but above all, he is someone who does not want to make mistakes in reasoning. Philosophizing is a way of reasoning and a way of solving problems that will never have a perfect and definitive solution. Knowing the distance between the Earth and the Moon is not a problem of philosophy, because it is enough to measure to solve it. On the other hand, knowing, for example, what justice is, is a problem of philosophy. A meter will not be able to help us know the answer. We must go about it differently, and in the courses I offer, I will teach you how.

You will learn

- text reading strategies
- case studies with the aim of learning from experts
- methodology in philosophy
- writing an essay
- writing a text commentary
- a work on the philosophers of your choice
- an overview of the history of philosophy
- the general culture necessary to be able to philosophize

I will adapt to your individual needs. Each course is tailor-made. We will analyze where your difficulties lie and together develop a course program that will make you perform as quickly as possible. The basic principle of the courses I offer is dialectics, like Plato's dialogues: reflecting together, making theoretical contributions, asking questions and seeking answers, and testing the validity of reasoning.

For the past 10 years, I have been teaching German using the philosophy methodology, having studied philosophy at the Master's level at Aix-Marseille University. It turns out that the analytical mind is very useful even outside the confines of philosophy. Today, there are even fields of activity such as management with philosophy or philotherapy. In recent years, some German students have asked me to also teach them philosophy courses, and that is why I decided to offer philosophy courses directly.

I look forward to meeting you during a first lesson.

Philosophy has got to be one of the most interesting things in the world, and understanding it is greatly helpful for living your life well and, most importantly, having great conversations with others! If you wanna be that guy who knows everything and can talk with people across different beliefs, then understanding the history of philosophy lets you understand what underpins their beliefs and maybe even what opposes them!

Philosophy is one of the most rewarding subjects a student can study, and one of the most demanding. I tutor philosophy and ethics at A-Level (AQA and OCR), IB Diploma, and undergraduate level, working with students from confident philosophers preparing for top university applications to beginners encountering rigorous philosophical thinking for the first time.

Sessions are tailored to each student. With exam-track students I focus on essay structure, argument construction, careful textual analysis, and the specific demands of the syllabus. With students preparing for Oxbridge applications and interviews, I work on intellectual flexibility, handling unfamiliar questions under pressure, and developing the rigorous reasoning admissions tutors look for. With students new to philosophy, I focus on foundational skills: clear definitions, careful reading, structured argument, and precise writing.

Subjects I cover include epistemology, metaphysics, ethics, philosophy of religion, political philosophy, moral and applied philosophy, and Islamic intellectual tradition. I also supervise IB Theory of Knowledge essays and presentations, and IB Extended Essays in philosophy, world religions, history, and English.
My background: BA (Honours) in Philosophy and Master of Teaching (Secondary) from the University of Melbourne, ranked #1 in Australia and #16 globally for Education in the QS World University Rankings 2025. Master of Arts in Applied Islamic Ethics from Hamad Bin Khalifa University, with the Best Thesis Prize for the programme and Dean's Honours List, and a forthcoming publication invited by the Journal of Islamic Ethics. Currently preparing a doctoral application to the University of Oxford. Thirteen years of teaching and curriculum design experience, including as the lead teacher at Australia's largest pre-medical education provider, where I built the humanities curriculum for GAMSAT preparation.

I work patiently and with genuine intellectual investment, and I believe a tutor's role is to develop the student's independent learning capacity rather than to substitute for it.

We begin with your own philosophy reading: What kind of philosophy do you enjoy? Which author(s) would you like to discover or explore further? Which philosophical text is important to you?

From there, the challenge is to deepen and broaden your thinking by renewing the way you read philosophy, through both new approaches and new sources.

A key element of my approach is working with both contemporary materials and classical texts. I specialise in topics related to politics and ethics, while also engaging with art, science, psychology, technology, education, and more.

Of course, I am open to any philosophical interests or questions you may wish to explore. For instance, I can assist you with practical tasks that call for philosophical reflection. In short, philosophy is co-creation.

Je peux également enseigner en français.
Ik kan ook lesgeven in het Nederlands.

Hi, I’m Subin — born and raised in Korea, now living in Houston.

I taught my husband Korean from absolute zero to full conversations. He’s not Korean, had no background, and now holds his own in Korean. So yes, I know how to actually get someone there.

I also spend a lot of time helping Korean friends navigate English, which means I understand where the two languages clash and why certain things are so hard to wrap your head around as a learner.

My sessions are conversational but I’m not just there to chat. I’ll catch your mistakes in real time, explain why something sounds unnatural, and teach you the cultural context behind what you’re saying. Korean is deeply tied to social dynamics and context that no app will ever explain to you.

We can work through whatever you’re actually into: breaking down K-drama scenes, translating lyrics, watching a clip and talking through what’s really being said versus what the subtitles say. That stuff teaches you more than any textbook chapter!
