About Me
My name is Pedro, I’m from Tenerife, and I worked as a deck officer on merchant ships for several years. I’ve travelled all over the world and worked with crews from many different countries. Ever since I started sailing, I’ve always felt that English allowed me to take my ideas and values with me wherever I went, regardless of the place or the crew. Now, I want to teach English so that you can experience the same thing I have experienced over the past few years.
I'm a very friendly and approachable person, and I always try to make everyone who joins my classes feel comfortable. I don’t consider myself strict or grumpy, but I am demanding. In other words, I’m going to get the most out of you so that you can bring out the best in yourself.
Finally, I hope that during our one-to-one classes, you’ll have a great time and laugh a lot too. 🙂

Hello! 👋
My classes are designed to help you become more confident and fluent when speaking English. Instead of starting with grammar, my goal is for grammar to come naturally from the need to use it when speaking. Studying grammar from the very beginning without a reason or purpose is like building a house from the roof down.
That’s why, in my classes, we kill two birds with one stone: while we build your confidence speaking English, we also learn how to express yourself better and communicate more naturally and effectively. Grammar will come into the picture, of course, but only when there is a real reason behind it.
This is the approach that has given me such good results since I first started teaching my deck cadets on board while working as a deck officer. At sea, it doesn’t matter what nationality you are — we all communicate in English, and the key is having the confidence to speak.
English can help you be yourself wherever you go in the world (I can tell you that from personal experience), and that is my main goal with my classes.
So, are you ready to come on board? 🌎

Hello! 👋
My classes are designed for maritime professionals working on board ships or in VTS. With me, you’ll learn the Maritime English you need to work on ships, in ports, and in VTS centres. My main focus is helping my students build confidence when speaking, so that their English can go with them wherever their career takes them.
My teaching approach is focused on the real and practical use of Maritime English. In other words, we’re not going to learn endless lists of words. My lessons are based on real-life onboard situations that I have created from my own experience as a deck officer. We’ll also make extensive use of audiovisual materials, such as videos, images, and real documents from my time at sea. I want you to finish my classes feeling prepared to work for any shipping company or in any VTS centre. 🌊
I also offer a Marlins Test preparation course based on my own experience as a deck officer. In this course, I prepare you not only for the exam, but also for life on board, by simulating a voyage from Hong Kong to Liverpool. 🚢
