About Me

I love teaching students of all ages and abilities from very beginners to advanced.
Lessons are designed to be enjoyable. Each lesson works on building understanding and technique - we work on breathing exercises, vocal exercises and a variety of songs. I have a friendly and flexible approach and I am able to adapt to the wide variety of students that I teach. I am a classically trained singer. I have worked as a performer and a teacher for over 25 years. I am also a qualified music and drama teacher, a songwriter and classical composer.

Education

I am from Australia and I studied voice in Australia completing a Masters of Performance (Opera/Voice) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music; and a Bachelor of Music Education; and a Bachelor of Arts (Music) at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. I have received scholarships to study language and libretti in Italy and I have continued to study voice in Australia, Italy, United Kingdom and Vienna. (I am a passionate teacher and learner!)

Experience / Qualifications

I have over 25 years experience teaching adults and children to sing! I have performed with Opera Australia and Opera Queensland, in musicals, cabaret shows and at many concerts and events in Australia and Europe. I have taught 1:1 lessons for over 25 years. I have also taught at many schools, universities and higher education including The Australian Institute of Music and The Music Practice in Australia. I love teaching absolute beginners and I also love teaching all levels to advanced. I am happy to work towards the goals of each individual student - whether this is discovering their voice and if they can sing (everyone can!), joining a choir, exams or auditions. I have an understanding and flexible approach.

My name is Denise and I'm a professional singer with a singing master's degree from Catalonia's Music College (ESMUC) specialized in Historical Singing, Musicology and Music Education.
My experience runs mostly in early and chamber music, nevertheless I also have the experience and knowledge of popular musical styles such as Latin-American folk, jazz and musicals.
