About Me

João Oliveira Pinho (b. September 18, 2000, Ovar, Portugal) is a Portuguese flutist. He completed his bachelor and Master’s degree at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, studying with Sophie Cherrier, Vincent Lucas and Pierre Dumail. João is currently active as a freelancer and has performed with leading ensembles such as the Orchestre des Lauréats du Conservatoire, Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, Orquestra Filarmónica Portuguesa, Orquestra Gulbenkian, Orquestra XXI, and others. He has also gained experience through internships with Orchestre de Radio France and Ensemble Intercontemporain.

A prize-winning musician, João received over ten first prizes in national competitions in Portugal, was a finalist at the International Severino Gazzelloni Competition in Italy, and won 3rd prize at the Cluj International Music Competition in Romania. He is also a recipient of the Gulbenkian Scholarship (2021–2022).

If you want to learn about how to perform it you first need a teacher educated by masters on this field. This class is for students of any age who wish to learn the transverse flute.

Learning an instrument takes time and commitment, but it's hugely rewarding - and it doesn't have to be boring! I have experience teaching students of all age and levels and I specialise in tailoring my teaching to meet the individual needs of each student.

Beginner flute lessons are suitable for students learning from scratch or those already playing up to about ABRSM Grade 2 level. In beginner flute lessons, you will learn the fundamentals of making a sound and play your first notes, as well as the basics of reading music. As lessons progress, you will learn your first short pieces and maybe even prepare for graded exams.

Intermediate lessons are suitable for students already playing at about ABRSM Grade 3 to Grade 5 levels. In these lessons, you will build on what you already know to expand your abilities on the flute. You will learn more about different musical styles and techniques and develop more confidence to express yourself through music.

Advanced lessons are for students already playing at about ABRSM Grade 6 and beyond. Depending on each student, lessons could involve growing more skills to take the advanced grade or diploma exams exams through to learning the skills to put together a recital programme or prepare for a music college audition. There is wide scope in these lessons to focus on your areas of interest, while still keeping an eye on the solid foundations of good flute technique and musicianship.
