I have taught private piano and singing lessons for the past six years and have entered students for classical ABRSM exams and also Trinity Pop & Rock with a 100% successful rate. I teach all ages and abilities and can tutor students through exams or those just wishing to learn for their own enjoyment. About Me

As I passed grade eight on both the piano and clarinet at the young age of thirteen I have a very good understanding of how important it is to keep lessons fun and enjoyable, whilst also teaching vital techniques. I'm so grateful for the ability to be able to play instruments and I want students to feel lucky to be able to be learning, rather than it being a chore to practise.

I still perform myself, something that many of my students find very exciting, I most recently played Vi Petty in the UK tour of the Buddy Holly Story. Previous to this I worked as Musical Director on Return the the Forbidden Planet (Upstairs at the Gatehouse) and have had worked commissioned as a composer for various projects, both musical theatre and comedy. I have also released my own music as a singer-songwriter (under the name Alice Ray) and my debut single came out in April 2020 - it was featured on BBC Introducing.

I have a diverse training background and this allows me to teach in many different styles including; classical, pop & rock and musical theatre. I also run songwriting workshops and am happy to incorporate this in lessons.

My name is Denise and I'm a professional singer with a singing master's degree from Catalonia's Music College (ESMUC) specialized in Historical Singing, Musicology and Music Education.

I firmly believe in the importance of knowing how to read music and this is exactly what I teach first, obviously adapting the method to the age of my students: knowing how to read music is knowing one more language, which, if learned well, won’t ever be forgotten (like riding a bicycle!) and it is an invaluable wealth. Starting from that point I teach the position of the hand, the arm and the whole body at the piano, the fundamentals of the piano technique (giving great importance to the percussive movement of the finger and the distribution of weight), the understanding of musical language, the expression of the personality through the keyboard, the search for touch and knowledge of piano repertoire.

The theory of everything tends to be really scary and music theory can be too. I am very keen to make music theory easy for everyone. For some people there is only one way to tackle the unmentionable but I believe there are many different approaches and one of them will click with you. It is simply finding out what is best for each person. Once we find the key we can unlock the problems that have puzzled you for ages.

Music theory needs to be more than a requirement, it needs to be the way to really appreciate the music you are playing. Certain aspects can also lead to additional practical skills such as improvisation which can be very useful as well as very enjoyable.

I offer piano lessons for adults and children, tailored to your goals and preferences. Each lesson lasts 45 minutes. Lessons are conducted in English, German and Russian. I teach piano at home in Vienna’s 3rd district and online on a beautiful Yamaha piano.

I have a full class of 13 students. Each semester, I organize a recital. If they wish, even my online students can take part through a live stream :)

I am an award-winning pianist in international competitions, a graduate of the Moscow Conservatory named after P.I. Tchaikovsky (BA), and currently a student at the Anton Bruckner University in Austria (MA).
