My main goals as a teacher are to help my students improve their technical skill, mature their musical ideas and learn effective practice methods.

The outline of my typical lesson consists of scales, a study and a piece. This creates a solid technical foundation while also expanding the students repertoire. Depending on the student’s goals, I can also incorporate aural/ sight reading practice into the lesson to move onto the ABRSM or Trinity syllabus to prepare for graded exams.

For beginners: songs, games, improvisation, creation. The links with song and rhythm are very important to have a healthy foundation. The musical notions are approached gradually by experience then by recognition. Reading and writing are brought about by creation and musical composition.

For the more experienced, polyphony and difficult passages can be approached with different tools, by awareness of harmony and melodic modes and polyrhythm. Sometimes it is enough to be aware of simplicity to overcome difficult passages.

I push to go further in the quality of the interpretation with simple means to better understand the music and thus allow more expressiveness and freedom.

I also offer improvisation, harmony,
lessons in musical ensembles, especially vocal polyphony for children, and lessons for specific needs, for example just intonation for singers or other instruments.

Hey! My name is Seán, and I am an Irish singer-songwriter based in London with 2 years of teaching experience. Evie studied music at university in London and has been playing violin and viola for over 20 years. She is interested in a broad range of music, which she hopes to share with students of all ages and abilities in their lessons. As a performer, Evie plays in various settings - folk, jazz, in bands, as well as more typical orchestral and chamber ensembles. Her own musical interest currently lies in folk, baroque music and improvisation.

I was a classical piano student at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester for 7 years and continued to study music for a year in Paris. I achieved a distinction at grade 8 ABRSM piano (the highest grade available), with 1 year of experience tutoring piano for a child who was 9 years old.
