A typical beginner student would follow this format in our classes

👉Week 1: Learn the much loved "catchy song" (coined by current students!) in the right hand, developing piano geography of CDEFG
👉Week 2: Introduce our Left Hand and initiate the concept of coordination (playing in both hands)
👉Week 3: Begin a new piece whilst developing our catchy song with additional coordination sections
👉Week 4: Master the art of live performance by introducing a metronome/backing track (feel like you're playing a gig!)

From their we will tail off into a more specific and personalised route of student development, whether it be following classical pieces and work towards grades, or take the contemporary pop route, learning songs in any genre (many students like to look into both paths!)

About Me

Hi I’m Charlie! I teach piano, guitar, bass and ukulele and have counted to over 10,000 hours of music lessons throughout my career.

As a musician, I love learning and performing all genres of music! From classic dance tracks, to heavy metal numbers. From the sporadicalness of blues and funk improvisation, to the calmness and serenity of classical pieces. Being able to play and teach multiple instruments really makes for diversity and opportunity as an active musician!

When I am not teaching, I perform in multiple bands and compose and release solo music. One of my favourite aspects of music is the aspect of composition; taking your own musical influences and toying around with them to create something unique is a thrilling experience!

After obtaining my music degree (BMus Hons) in 2014, I began teaching music in multiple schools and private institutions, gradually building up to a personal network of private students. Having been in so many different musical interactions has kept me agile as a teacher and be aware of the versatility required to master the art of tuition.

I began doing one-to-one lessons online at the start of lockdown in 2020, realising it was the only way to progress as a teacher and for also students to progress. During this time I discovered the advantage of learning an instrument in the comfort of your own home, whilst having the same quality as a face to face lesson led to rapid developments of my students!

I firmly believe in the importance of knowing how to read music and this is exactly what I teach first, obviously adapting the method to the age of my students: knowing how to read music is knowing one more language, which, if learned well, won’t ever be forgotten (like riding a bicycle!) and it is an invaluable wealth. The theory of everything tends to be really scary and music theory can be too. I am very keen to make music theory easy for everyone. For some people there is only one way to tackle the unmentionable but I believe there are many different approaches and one of them will click with you. It is simply finding out what is best for each person. Once we find the key we can unlock the problems that have puzzled you for ages.

Music theory needs to be more than a requirement, it needs to be the way to really appreciate the music you are playing. Certain aspects can also lead to additional practical skills such as improvisation which can be very useful as well as very enjoyable.

I am a Spanish pianist and composer (MMus graduate from Codarts Rotterdam in both directions) with many years of teaching experience, and also very active in performing in various contexts.

This class is designed for conservatory students, private candidates and advanced musicians who need solid guidance in harmony, counterpoint and fugue, especially in preparation for exams and auditions.

We work on written exercises, stylistic correction and analytical understanding, with a clear method and step-by-step feedback. Particular attention is given to Renaissance and Baroque practices (modal counterpoint, species, tonal counterpoint, fugue), helping students understand why rules exist, not just how to apply them.

I have many years of experience teaching harmony and counterpoint, and several of my students have successfully passed conservatory composition exams thanks to this guided approach.
