The focus is giving to the student a correct knowledge about this kind of music, the correct way to think about it, for better interpretation, for play it with the correct feeling and correct swing. Some progressive exercises on drums developed by me for many years, result of a work with some Brazilian artists and teaching a lot of students at Villa-Lobos Music School in Rio de Janeiro.

About Me

Hello i am a professional drummer and percussionist who lives in Rio de Janeiro and love several types of music especially Brazilian music and jazz. I have performed with several artists in Brazil and other countries for about 20 years playing drums, vibraphone and general percussion. At the same time i have been teaching classes to many students at all levels where i could develop a gradually method to teach Brazilian music on drums and percussion.
My aim is to provide the student with the necessary knowledge to perform correctly this music. If you are intested in learn more about it, discover many possibilities to play these rhythms on drums, perfect yourself in this type of music, improve your knowledge and technique or just start learning drums using these rhythms it will be a pleasure for me to be able to help.
The lessons are adapted dependind on your level and your interest, if you don´t mind speaking english not too quickly we will have no problem with that, and i hope we have a useful and interesting class.

The course method, inspired by the Agostini school (French method used in French and Belgian academies and conservatories) is divided between technique and drums. At the rate of one session each we will focus once on technique and movements outside the drums (on pads) and the other time on the drums and the application of technique and movements.

-> The technique lessons and the movements will be those of the so-called 'Moeller technique' that I learned through his direct lineage of student.
-> The drum lessons are greatly inspired by the pedagogy of the M.A.I. (Music Academy International - Nancy (fr)) and in particular that of Richard-Paul Morellini, renowned instructor.

The courses are complete, in-depth but above all specifically thought of to be progressive. They are suitable for children from 7 years old as well as adults of all ages.

=> Particular attention is paid to the movements and their correct application, to the total independence of the limbs and finally to an understanding of the rhythm and its theory. My main goal is to give the student complete control behind the drums and skills to be able to self-learn any piece in any musical style. 1 hour of weekly lessons are never enough, they should only be used to fuel the passion that will make you play at home more and more.

On demand or for advancs students:
- I am very passionate about the study of South American rhythms. Due to their complexity, apart from the samba and Baïon ostinatos, they are not included in the program before the advanced level. They can be at the request of the student.
- I am also specialized in metal (musical style) and double pedal. The latter is not included in the program unless requested by the student. The double pedal courses are based on the methodology of Virgil Donati.

I believe learning music should be fun as well as practical, so I combine technique with direct application in songs and playing with other instruments. After that, we work on grooves or fills, often using a play-along track or music chosen by the student. In band lessons, the emphasis is on playing with other instruments, rehearsal structure, and stage presence: how to play tightly together, present yourself on stage, and how to deal with issues that might occur during your performance.

My specific skills lie in modern genres such as (indie) rock, metal, pop, and groove-based styles. My name is Chen. I’ve been living, performing, and teaching here in Amsterdam for the last few years, and I hold both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in jazz drums from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (CvA).
I love diving into a massive mix of styles, blending everything from jazz and minimalism to rock, electronic music, and creative groove concept drumming. I truly believe that music lessons should be tailored to what gets you excited. Whether you want to master a solid practice pad routine, learn your favorite songs, build up your timing and coordination, or dive deep into advanced improvisation, we will design the lessons around your goals.

Je joue du piano depuis 15 ans, de la batterie depuis 10 ans et de la guitare depuis 5 ans. Je peux dire avec confiance que j'ai bien appris à m'enseigner moi-même rapidement et à m'entraîner sur un instrument, ce que je voudrais partager avec tout le monde. Devenir un très bon joueur ou même un virtuose est beaucoup plus facile que tout le monde ne le croit, et j'aime bien enseigner cette compétence aux gens, que ce soit aux débutants, aux joueurs intermédiaires ou aux musiciens avancés.

Qu'allons-nous faire? On va apprendre à lire la notation, improviser, jouer des pièces musicales, composer, avoir l'air cool en jouant et se faire plaisir. J'ai enseigné la batterie depuis des années en français, anglais et tchèque — j'ai aussi enseigné aux enfants à Park Lane International School à Prague, une école prestigieuse dont les élèves ont remporté cette année un concours international de musique.
