Would you like to be able to learn how to write music? If so, my goal is to guide you through the learning process and give you the tools to become an autonomous musician: technical skills, understanding of music theory, sight-reading,
music history, orchestration, electronics, and last but not the least composition according to what may be for you.

I hold a master's degree in Composition from the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp and now I'm pursuing an Advanced Master's in Contemporary Music at the Royal Conservatory/School of Arts in Ghent. Besides my formation as a composer, I also perform and collaborate with artists from several art forms. I'm glad to share my experience with you!

If you're interested in starting online composition lessons with me, please send me a message so we can discuss which option would fit you best!

I'm looking forward to hearing from you!

About Me
Hi!
My name is Rúben. I am a Portuguese composer based in Antwerp. I came to Belgium to pursue my master's degree in Composition at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. Since then I've been living between Portugal and Belgium developing performances with artists from several fields.

I would be really happy to meet you and teach you what composition may be. The lessons are fun and relaxed. We will talk about your expectations and the styles of music you would like to explore. I am a classically trained composer, but I'm glad I can share my experience with you :)

Martine
Hi,

I'm Martine. As a child I really enjoyed solfège - as the only one in the class, I think :) -. Later, harmony aroused my interest. Some people think it is a necessary evil, it makes me warm, and especially then: talk about it. Music is first and foremost a feeling, but a basic knowledge of music theory can help you so much!
--->

- 🎹 Do you have trouble reading sheet music?
- Do you often get stuck while practicing because you don't know your notes and rhythms enough?
- Is that knowledge of music theory really far away?
- Don't have time for weekly solfège lessons at the music academy?
- Need a little help deciphering a score?
- Or do you want to prepare for the new school year?

- Do you want to learn chords?
- Train your hearing?
- Accompany yourself on piano while you sing like crazy?
- Would you like to write your own music, but don't know where to start?
- Or do you want to learn to improvise but have no knowledge of harmony?

- Are you unsure about playing together?
- Do you lack self-confidence and freedom as a self-taught or starting musician?
- Do you feel limited in your creativity because you lack a theoretical basis?

I am happy to help you with:

- ✅ Practical note recognition exercises: Short, effective sessions that improve your reading skills.
- ✅ Basic understanding of chords: Understand how chords work and how to use them in improvisation.
- ✅ Clear explanation of basic harmony: Understand the structure of music and learn to create your own compositions with confidence.
- ✅ Techniques for improvisation: Develop methods to spontaneously create melodies and solos.
- ✅ Personal guidance, and useful tips for rapid progress: Customized lessons that match your pace and learning style.

Experience:
I graduated from Studio Herman Teirlinck (Master Kleinkunst), and then studied piano at the Antwerp Jazz Studio. I also attended workshops with Jef Neve, Kenny Werner, Bram Vermeulen, Amina Figarova, among others... In addition to fifteen years of private piano lessons (children & adults), I supervise songwriting workshops for adults & young people (Summer Academy, Zennetour finalists...) and gave I have been teaching piano for many years at the youth music school of the Halewijnstichting (Berchem).
My friends think I'm a creative jack-of-all-trades. I like to do many things: making music, writing songs, making theater, composing music & soundscapes for theater, playing piano in different bands, writing, drawing, illustrating, singing... Many styles also appeal to me in the field of music: Classical, jazz, chansons, pop, ...

🎼 Ready to improve your skills?
Stop putting your artistic talent second and come to me for personal guidance!

For whom?
