Hi.

I'm currently enrolling students for September 2021 for classical and/or modern piano tuition. I'm a fully qualified piano teacher with the Royal Irish Academy of Music. I have completed Grade 8 piano with Distinction and was awarded a 'High Achiever Award' for my marks at Senior Certificate. I have also taken the RIAM Theory and Harmony examinations. I have received numerous awards at competitions such as Feis Ceoil, Sligo Feis Ceoil and the European Piano Teacher Association Piano Festival.

Lessons are for children aged between 6 and 14. All levels/abilities are very welcome. Children are given the option of taking exams or learning for fun. Lessons take place at my home.

I firmly believe in the importance of knowing how to read music and this is exactly what I teach first, obviously adapting the method to the age of my students: knowing how to read music is knowing one more language, which, if learned well, won’t ever be forgotten (like riding a bicycle!) and it is an invaluable wealth. The theory of everything tends to be really scary and music theory can be too. I am very keen to make music theory easy for everyone. For some people there is only one way to tackle the unmentionable but I believe there are many different approaches and one of them will click with you. It is simply finding out what is best for each person. Once we find the key we can unlock the problems that have puzzled you for ages.

Music theory needs to be more than a requirement, it needs to be the way to really appreciate the music you are playing. Certain aspects can also lead to additional practical skills such as improvisation which can be very useful as well as very enjoyable.

I am a Spanish pianist and composer (MMus graduate from Codarts Rotterdam in both directions) with many years of teaching experience, and also very active in performing in various contexts.
