I am now offering piano and violin lessons for beginners and intermediate students including kids, teens and adults. I use a student-centred pedagogy to help students reach their individual goals, whether they want to learn a classical repertoire or their favourite tunes from movies, musicals, etc. On top of that, I teach theory, improvisation, and various mindfulness and embodiment tools that cultivate technical and performance skills. I have a bachelors in psychology and violin performance from York University in Canada. In addition, I also have experience working with neurodiverse populations and low-vision populations-I am both:)

I am a graduate of the Royal College of Music in London, where I lived since 2009.

I teach violin and viola lessons with the aim of improving technique, musicality, and interest in the instrument. Learning a string instrument can be challenging, but I believe it is also one of the most rewarding endeavors you can undertake.

I focus on sound production and facility of the instrument, and try to make sure that every student is learning repertoire that helps them and interests them.

I offer lessons in guitar/bass, piano/keyboard (classical/experimental/pop/jazz), composition/songwriting, production/recording (DAWs, mixing, editing etc). No matter what level we're on, as musicians and artists we're all part of a wonderful and strange ongoing human project, and I believe that it's my duty to share the knowledge and skills that I've accumulated throughout the course of my life and career.

Over the years, my work has branched out in many different stylistic directions but I am firmly rooted in avant-garde/classical music. I hold two degrees in composition: a Master of Music '11 from the Yale School of Music where I also taught undergraduate lessons in composition; and a BA in Music Composition from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Sweden ('09). I've written large scale works for orchestra, chamber pieces, solo music for a variety of instruments, works with multichannel electronics, and works for theater and dance. For those interested, my recorded work is easily accessible online on a variety of labels and my scores are available from Schott Music New York.

As a pianist, I began formal training at age 6 and worked through much of the classical repertoire before deciding to focus fulltime on composition. I am also an accomplished studio musician, improviser (jazz/free/experimental), and a member of several groups/ensembles.

A firm believer in the use of intuition as a primary tool in music making of all kinds, I would like our lessons to be shaped according to your needs and interests. No matter what level you are on, my goal will always be to offer you exactly what you need at each given step. I treat each student as a unique collaborative effort.

Apart from technical and aesthetic approaches, it is usually very difficult and takes a long time to find one's 'voice' as a performer, writer or producer; this is inevitable except in rare cases, and I will endeavour to teach you to trust in your own abilities, overcome insecurities and doubts, and connect your artistic practice with a more unified mindset that goes beyond imagined technical and stylistic limitations and aesthetic policing. The main point is to eradicate unnecessary obstacles to your creativity and learn to trust your intuition and choices.

Learning about violin playing from theory to performance, how to position right and left hand, how to check and improve intonation, how to practice various techniques and solve different kind of technical problems.
We can work on standard violin school textbooks, from basic exercises through scales, studies to simple pieces and then to more demanding violin pieces like concertos and sonatas.
If someone prefers to learn basic tunes such as popular melodies and violin cover songs, that’s possible as well.

What makes a good song? This is exactly what we are going to find out. Exploring many of same techniques that are dealt with during our Composition Lessons, but in a broader more macro way. These lessons are geared to bring out your inner storyteller. By analyzing the great songs of the past and learning what makes them so effective, students will be able to internalize those tricks and techniques and add them to their own musician's toolbox. These tools will prove to be invaluable not only in crafting and shaping their musical stories, but also in overcoming writer's block. How do you learn and what are your goals in learning music? I aim to make learning music as interesting and accessible as possible. I use a scaffolded approach to teaching that pairs physically sustainable playing techniques (Alexander Technique) with built-upon previous knowledge and interests. I hold MM and BM degrees from New York University and The University of Iowa and studied with Melissa White and Gregory Fulkerson for the entirety of my Masters of Music at New York University.
I am a violinist and violist currently living and working in New York City. I have played in such venues as Lincoln Center Summer Stages, Carnegie Hall, Duomo di Orvieto, among others. I grew up playing bluegrass with my parents and now genre-hop among traditional classical music, contemporary classical, pop, singer-songwriter, musical theater, jazz, avant-garde, and folk. For these reasons and more, I enjoy tailoring the repertoire and technique education to the student's goals and interests. I have taught 3 year olds, elementary kids, high schoolers, college students, and adult learners, and enjoyed all within the age range for various reasons.

As a beginner, we envelope the simple factors that go into making a beautiful piece, and find ways to feel confident within our selves and our playing skills. Starting from scratch and building the foundation of your playing is crucial during this era of learning, and with constant practice, time, and patience, we can overcome any obstacle in music together.

Students in intermediate/advanced classes will have a heavier workload and more commitment to their lessons as well as tasks provided afterwards such as to-do lists and practice logs. These students are to be prepared 100% of the time with preparing their repertoire prior to the lesson, and maintaining their practice log accordingly.
