About Me
Marco: Taikoza and East Winds Ensemble Director:
Marco lived in Japan for 18 years (1981-1998) as a member of the legendary Taiko group Ondekoza (famous for running marathons and playing Taiko at the finish line), where he mastered the Taiko, the Fue, the Noh theater flute and under Katsuya Yokoyama, the Shakuhachi. 1990-1993, Marco performed, ran and organized a three year and 9000mile long run of the perimeter of the USA and performing along the way. He was the principal Odaiko soloist, Nagado soloist and Shakuhachi soloist in Ondekoza. He has been influenced by the Stage vision and presentation of Taiko by legendary director Tagayasu Den (who instigated the renaissance of Taiko and created what modern taiko is today). In 1995, Marco was the Shakuhachi soloist for the NYC Opera’s premiere of the Opera ''Kinkakuji'' by Toshiro Mayuzumi. He is presently the director of the New York-based Taikoza (Taiko, Shakuhachi and dance ensemble) and East Winds Ensemble (Shakuhachi, Koto, Shamisen and piano) and performs and teaches internationally (Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Italy, Switzerland and Canada, etc.). He has performed at Carnegie Hall, Suntory Hall, Osaka Festival Hall, Madison Square Garden, Tchaikovsky Hall and House of Music in Moscow among others. Marco has composed and recorded more than 10 CD for Shakuhachi, Taiko and Fue. His music can be heard on iTunes and the Nintendo Wii game: Red Steel. In 2015, he released two CD of his compositions with Taikoza: Voice of the Earth and Tree Spirit. He was the Shakuhachi soloist with the premiere of Hosokawa’ Voyage X with the Juilliard New Music Ensemble. Marco has performed internationally and for companies such Price Waterhouse Coopers, Pepsi, Merck, Diesel, Gillette, etc.
