About Me
Cellist Gabriel was born and raised in England.
During his career as a soloist and as a guest artist, notably with the Ensemble Alternance in Paris, Gabriel has revived forgotten masterpieces and created more than sixty new works. Gabriel has performed at Merkin Hall in New York at the St. Lawrence Center in Toronto, at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris in association with IRCAM and Radio-France, at the Aldeburgh Festival (UK) and at the Forbidden City Concert Beijing Hall. He has been both resident artist and chamber music coordinator at the Atlantic Music Festival (Maine, USA) since 2016.
Education
Gabriel obtained his doctorate in music from the University of Montreal in 2015. His most influential teachers were Clive Greensmith (Tokyo Quartet), David Finckel (Emerson Quartet) and Daniel Domb, former principal cello of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. He was trained in chamber music by Menahem Pressler, Valentin Erben (Alban Berg Quartet), Arnold Steinhardt (Guarneri Quartet), Richard Young (Vermeer Quartet) and in Berlin by Eberhard Feltz.
Experience / Qualifications
He is passionate about teaching, and in addition to his visiting professorship at Ohio University from 2016-2019, he has given master classes, taught chamber music, and led workshops at such prestigious institutions. as the Normal School of Music (Paris), the University of South Africa, the University of Curitiba (Brazil), the Royal Academy of London, the Belgrade Conservatory (Serbia), the Nagoya Conservatory (Japan) and the Hochschule Hanns Eisler in Berlin.
