Hey, I am Koné (23) a full time artist and musician. I am mainly a percussionist with a big focus on handpan (also known as hang, hang drum, pantam,...). I have been playing percussion for 17 years and through studying and practicing different instruments have been able to develop a great teaching method. I have been a student of several professionals: Kabecao, Nadishana, Malte Marten, David Kucherman, Rosie Bergonzi, Johan de Baedts, Eric Bosteels, Wouter van Tornhout, Patrick Dorcean, Dré Pallemaerts, Sattar Khan, Toni Vitacollona, Benny Bettane, Dan Mayo,...

About Me

I am Koné, a full-time artist and musician. I am primarily a percussionist with a big focus on handpan (also known as hang, hang drum, pantam,...). I have been playing percussion for 17 years and by studying and practicing different instruments I have been able to develop a special teaching method.

Africa is the center of the rhythms of the 6/8 register. Benin's musical identity comes from the many sources of our cultures and general traditions. This course is initiated in order to allow drummers to discover and access all the rhythmic potential for their performance through the learning and practice of Benin Polyrythmie.

The course method, inspired by the Agostini school (French method used in French and Belgian academies and conservatories) is divided between technique and drums. At the rate of one session each we will focus once on technique and movements outside the drums (on pads) and the other time on the drums and the application of technique and movements.

-> The technique lessons and the movements will be those of the so-called 'Moeller technique' that I learned through his direct lineage of student.
-> The drum lessons are greatly inspired by the pedagogy of the M.A.I. (Music Academy International - Nancy (fr)) and in particular that of Richard-Paul Morellini, renowned instructor.

The courses are complete, in-depth but above all specifically thought of to be progressive. They are suitable for children from 7 years old as well as adults of all ages.

=> Particular attention is paid to the movements and their correct application, to the total independence of the limbs and finally to an understanding of the rhythm and its theory. My main goal is to give the student complete control behind the drums and skills to be able to self-learn any piece in any musical style. 1 hour of weekly lessons are never enough, they should only be used to fuel the passion that will make you play at home more and more.

On demand or for advancs students:
- I am very passionate about the study of South American rhythms. Due to their complexity, apart from the samba and Baïon ostinatos, they are not included in the program before the advanced level. They can be at the request of the student.
- I am also specialized in metal (musical style) and double pedal. The latter is not included in the program unless requested by the student. The double pedal courses are based on the methodology of Virgil Donati.

Technique:
* Moeller technique (the 'whipping motion' - the Free stroke -Full/Half/Low stroke - accepting the rebound - its application etc.)
* Snare rudiments and their applications through reading systems
* Readings of scores and exercises for the snare drum
* Speed drills
* Military marches
* Control of the different subdivisions (quarter notes - eighth notes - triplets - sixteenth notes - quintuplets - sextuplets - triple eighth notes - nonolets etc.)
* Displacement of accents and polyrhythms
* On request, double pedal technique (application of the Moeller to the double pedal as well as everything listed above but with the feet)

Would you like to start learning drums?

It may seem impossible at first but with the correct technique and guidance it will not take long before you start to build complex grooves, fill them with fast solos, and play your favorite songs like its nothing.

However, to achive these, you need to develop your fundamental skills such as stick and finger control, rhythm and timing, limb independence and basic rudiments, and luckily, I know exactly how you can develop these skills fast and efficient.

The lessons are practical and musical from the start. Rather than treating exercises as isolated tasks, I explain how they connect to real playing, songs, grooves, and fills.

I have more than 10 years of drumming experience and completed Trinity College London Drum Kit Grade 8, with Distinction, which taught me to play most genres, including rock, pop, jazz, samba at an advanced level.
