About Me
I am a PhD student in Sports Psychology. I have graduated First Class with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Sociology and English and in high school scored 95.03% overall in Humanities and Social sciences. As a PhD student, I specialise in Research Methodology and advanced psychology. I am a published academic author and have presented multiple research works in national and international conferences. In psychology, I specialise in positive psychology, neuropsychology, personality, social psychology and psychopathology.
I tutor all social science subjects including Psychology, English, History, Sociology, Political Science and Geography. I specialise in neuropsychology as well and therefore can teach Biology till 10th standard as well.
I am open to online and in-person tutoring
I have 3 years of extensive experience in teaching students ages 8 and above in all subjects of social sciences. I have worked with over 60 students in-person over the last 3 years
I speak and write 4 languages including English, Bengali, Hindi and German. I tutor spoken English, Bengali and Hindi. Being a PhD student, I have flexible timings which I can schedule around the needs of my students. I am currently based in Glasgow and can take an in-person class on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
My interests include reading and travelling. I have a working knowledge of concepts and theories in natural sciences such as physics and evolutionary biology. I am passionate about climate change and environmental protection.
My teaching style is usually expressive with practical examples and insightful questioning. I broadly follow the positive schooling paradigm via which each student progresses at their own speed of development and the teacher's job is to facilitate the creative and intellectual development of the student. I am comfortable with both structured and unstructured content delivery which usually depends upon the subject matter at hand. I have taken multiple activity-based and lecture-based workshops with over 40 participants per workshop.
This combination of Psychology and Sociology particularly was instrumental in my understanding of the reach and potential impact of these fields. Psychology and Sociology along with my internship and work experience have also sensitised me to the many realities of the social world, while also improving my abilities to work with people. My university studies provided me with a solid foundation of knowledge in psychology, and in research methodology upon which to base advanced studies on.
During my college years, I was very active in extra-curricular activities in order to add a more holistic perspective, practical skills and work with people. In 2016, I became the youngest globally licensed practitioner of Personality with Lumina Learning and in 2017 completed practitioner licensing as a Strengths-Coach, with StrengthScope. I have held the post of Representative (2016-17) and Treasurer (2017-18) of the Psychology Association in the department. In addition, I was the Student Coordinator in a Rehabilitation and Training programme with HIV infected adolescents that was facilitated by our university.
I have been actively engaged in research from my second year and have presented several papers in notable International Conferences, one which is published and another currently under review in an Scopus indexed Journal. This has allowed me to gain considerable experience in integrating, collecting and analyzing data, which will help in my postgraduate dissertation. I am also especially eager to contribute my knowledge and experiences to classes and research collaborations, while also learning from students and professors. Currently, I am collaborating with both students and professors in research projects, one of which is based on sports psychology. This present endeavour has allowed me to closely work with the various university sports teams in my University, thus giving me an experience of what I expect to do in my career. Over the course of two years, I have taken several workshops and training for students in my University, and am a facilitator in several Life Skills modules owing to my experience in the Snehagram-Camilians HIV Rehabilitation Program.
I have always had an ardent interest in sports, and have played football and lawn tennis in a formal setup from the age of 10, representing my school and my academy in competitive tournaments. To this end, when combining my passion for psychology as well as my interest in training-development, and sports, I hope to acquire an understanding of sports psychology through your graduate program. My career goal of being a sports psychologist took shape during the initial semesters of my undergraduate course. Being an intern at the Clinic of the University of Calcutta, working with clinical patients made me realise, that my talents would be better used as a training-based psychologist.
